Thinking Pink #6: A Ballerina Tutu to Italian Hand Blown Glass

Welcome to my (almost) weekly post where
I share my latest finds in my favorite color... PINK!

This past weekend I had a chance to
go antique shopping in one of our local
antique malls and I found this
beautiful vintage ballerina tutu.

I'm guessing it is from the 1950's or 1960's
by looking at the manufacturer's tag.
Too sweet to pass up despite some
discoloration on the tutu.

And in the same dealer's booth,
I spotted this adorable little
girl slip dress. It is white but
trimmed in light pink.

These three, gorgeous rose plates were
from a different sale last weekend.

There were so many more but I
could not buy them all. The former
owner had a beautiful collection.

And I found this beautiful hand
blown glass bowl. Possibly
Murano glass from Venice.
Trimmed in pink, it is just lovely!

And my dear Hubby brought this
sweet pair back from a sale.
This particular set has such
sweet pink roses and I love the
swirled lines.

Hope you enjoyed my pinky finds.
I'll be back Tuesday for
Let's Talk Vintage!

Have a great weekend!

Vintage Finds of the Week #16

Last weekend was a whirlwind Estate Sale. It started out terribly for me.

Some people just take one look at me and get upset. Really, they do!

I arrived to the sale later than normal due to a 6 1/2 year old trailing along. The Hubs had already gone REALLY early to get a number for us.

At least, that's what I thought was the plan.

I get in line, which really wasn't a line, it was a group.

This lady starts harassing me about why I haven't picked a number up yet.

Angry she was! After I tell her it's because of the six year old she snarls... "I'll just have to bring all of MY family members next time!"

Finally I left. Bebe and I were in the car, I put my glasses down, and I was about to start the engine.

The Hubs comes rushing over to my car and says "It's OK! You're allowed to bring a person in."

So, I get out and proceed to get in line, and then we are being called into the house. (We were #6.) It was then I realized I had forgotten my glasses in the car.

It was crowded. You had to make your way around some of the rooms in a circle because there were things all along the perimeter as well as in the middle. Once more people were let in, you were kind of stuck where you were.

Below are my finds of the week, including other sales. I didn't do too badly with a 6 year old and no glasses!

I found this flow blue platter which isn't gigantic or heavy so it was easy to carry around.

My Hubby couldn't leave without
this piece so into the pile it went.

Here we have some ironstone,
white pottery, kid gloves,
a 1st Holy Communion box with
trinkets and prayer beads.

The teapot and the gloves
were from a different sale,
hand picked by the Hubs.
He's pretty good, eh?

A large wooden spool and some
aqua glass medicine bottles.

The hubs again, did well with this two drawer
sewing machine piece. And not very easy to see,
but there is a McCoy teapot to the left.

(The Roseville vase behind it is mine,
on display. Kinda got mixed in by accident!)

I'm starting to gather quite a bit of PYREX,
I might bring them to an antique show
in September and see how they do there.

We thought the glass and aluminum egg coddlers
were interesting. The man at the estate sale wrote
down "Cobblers" on the receipt. I'm thinking they
are egg coddlers though. Will look them
up when I get a chance. Which could
also be in September when school starts!

There is also a cookbook and an
aluminum shaker in great condition,
no dents!

I grabbed this on the second day,
which was of course, 1/2 off day!
They had two but the other
was gone by the second day.

Still trying to figure out what
it is. Anyone? It's not that
sturdy so it can't be a shoe holder.

and in my last Let's Talk Vintage post,
I mentioned I found something from
Paris, France. Well, I am always searching
for the Eiffel Tower postcard.
Whenever I get them, they sell out
quickly, so I was happy to find another.
I selected some other scenes from
Paris to go along with it.

And while I was looking for postcards
I found these 4 Tucks cards with
George Washington scenes.
While they were not cheap,
I think they were a good buy.

Raphael Tuck postcards
(made for her Majesty, the Queen!)
are quite desirable and sought after
by avid collectors. These were a
win/win because they are patriotic
and depict our first president.

And they are for my own personal
collection. A birthday present to me!

Hope you enjoyed a sneak
peek into my latest finds...
I'll be back with some pinky
things later on!

Let's Talk Vintage #43: Spotted at an Antique Mall

Hello and welcome to Let's Talk Vintage!

Today I am sharing some cool vintage that I
spotted while shopping an antique
mall for Bella Rosa inventory.

Look at this celluloid dresser box.
Stunning. And from the looks of it,
in very nice condition.
With a price tag of 85.00 I wasn't
sure how much more was left
for me to make any money so
I didn't even ask the staff to
open the locked case it was in.

And I'm on a roll with
finding vintage dolls!
She is adorable.

Again, she was priced too
high for me to find any
room left for resale.

That is the tough part
about looking for inventory
in a retail environment.

I just love these metal name plates
removed from old cars.

I've sold some of these before and
still have a few pieces so I
didn't buy any. You can find
mine here and here.

Does this sign lure you in?
Definitely not my type of
thing to sell in my Bella Rosa
shop but it sure is neat!
Perfect for a lake or
seaside home.

I just love vintage Christmas things!
Especially after our trip inside the
is a unique museum, right
here in our own county.

I loved this circus sign
but it wasn't in the
best shape so I passed on it.

There's no clowning around!
(I just had to write that!)

Seriously though, this isn't easy.
Which you all know. We are
 literally hand picking vintage
 wares out of antique malls,
shops, estate sales, yard sales,
or through word of mouth.

I did find a few treasures though.
And one in here...can you
guess what I look for, each
time I visit this postcard booth?

Under the last file card ...
can you see it? The word
"PARIS?" Hmmm...
what could be in there?
(What a tease I am!)

Look for it and more in my
"Vintage Finds of the Week"
post on Wednesday evening.

Here are this week's features:

Rita at Panopoly shared how she
reworks her antique booth ...
between the awesome goodies
she has for sale and the layouts she
prepares... I'm sure she is pulling in
buyers with this vintage appeal.
Great job, Rita!

and Joy of A Vintage Green
shared her first stencil
making project.
Love it! I would say I'm
green with envy but that would
just be too hokey so I'll just
leave the great ideas to Joy!

And Lauren of My Wonderfully
Made came up with this amazing
side table made from an old
ash tray stand.
Wow!

and finally a newcomer to LTV!
Sarah from Sadie Seasongoods
made this awesome ladder
back scarf rack!

Thinking Pink #5: LuRay Pastels, Go-Alongs, and Victoriana

This week I am sharing some of
my pink finds... but this week
there are a lot of pastels in the mix.

As in LuRay Pastels by
Taylor, Smith, and Taylor.

This popular dinnerware ran
 from the late 1930's
 to the Early 1950's.

I have a large set on display
in my kitchen cabinets and have
 looked and looked for LuRay
 to sell, with minimal success.

But last weekend on a very
rare occasion, I found some!

The house where we found
the LuRay was probably built in
the 1930's... and the kitchen
was original!

The old sink, the ironing board
built into a cabinet in the wall.
It was neat. And I imagine this
must have been the woman's
set of dishes back in the day.

Most of the pieces were chipped
and had to be left behind.
As a collector it is
heartbreaking!

But fifteen minutes later
at another sale, I found
this set of 4 wine
goblets in pastels!
Perfect as "go alongs"
as we collectors like to say.

I also found vintage party supplies.
Also in pastels. What fun!

This hat looks an awful lot
like a cake, doesn't it???

Then at another sale I found these Victorian calling cards.
I am always fascinated by them. Not much different than
today's business cards, but yet very different at the same time. These were social. I guess they were
pre-Facebook days!

A reminder of a great afternoon
chatting and having tea.
This pretty footed, rose
decorated teacup was
found just this morning!

So was this pretty
Victorian berry set.
I have two of the large
bowls and 12 of the
smaller berry bowls.

Hope you enjoyed my pink
and pastel finds...I'll be
listing everything for
sale except possibly the
wine goblets!

Enjoy the day!

Vintage Finds of the Week #15: Fun Furniture Finds, About Schmidt, and The Peacock Hat

This week seems to be zipping by really fast.
And so is summer.
Maybe it's because I am having so much
fun with vintage finds!

I almost missed this plant stand or table.
Love the curved lines!

Bebe and I were in a local strip mall
making an appointment when
I spotted a small sign on one
of the shop windows:

GARAGE SALE

And lo and behold was this man
selling his parents estate out
of an office or shop space!

He figured it was cheaper
than paying for storage and
a place to sell his stuff... so
voila... a garage sale shop!
It was a first for me!
Right before I walked out
with my other finds I noticed
the stand.

He sold it to me for 10.00!
I love it and am looking for
a place to put it in my house.

And these two Hummels we're
from his parents estate, too.

Did you see the movie,
About Schmidt?

I always think of that movie
whenever I see Hummels.
Tee Hee!

Anyway, I may do an upcoming
"Let's Talk Vintage" post
about them... I learned
their history when I was a
writer for QVC. It was
very interesting, as the
  back story always is!

My Hubby found this antique child's folding table.
So cute. No chairs to go along with it, however.
I'm guessing it is from the 1930's.

This is a very unique nativity set...
My Mother collects small nativities so
this will probably go to her...
it is small enough to fit in a stocking!

I found this rose book at an estate
sale. Inside are some color images
of roses. Figured I couldn't go
wrong there... you know Bella Rosa!

I had to do some digging to discover the
black vintage photo album. Sometimes it
pays to dig around. My hubby and I
balance each other out... he is a scanner
and I am a digger. I like to rummage.

The glass door knob was a good find. Even with its
chippy white paint still in place! The milk glass
butter is of a nice heavy quality, I will have
to do some more research because I'm not sure
if it is Westmoreland or not.

And what's July without a little bit of Christmas.
Speaking of, I think this is the first summer I have
not had my Christmas in July sale. I haven't been
having luck with sales so I'm doing
them less and less.

Anyway, this ceramic tree is going to go
into my Retro Etsy shop. I think
there is a sale there, waiting
to happen this Fall!

My favorite find from the weekend
(same estate sale as the rose book)
was this gorgeous black and
iridescent green feather hat.
Peacock most likely? I've
never seen one like it before.
It is so silky and smooth.

Thanks so much for taking the
time to check out my latest
finds. If you see anything of
interest, just let me know
before I list them in my
online shop or Etsy shops which
I will start filling again once
Bebe goes back to school.

Enjoy the day!

PS. I'll be sharing some of
the PINK THINGS I found
on Friday for "Thinking Pink."
