Above you see four windmills. They're your typical Delft style and all made in Holland. Normally I would not have taken a second look at these but in 2001 I took a trip with a girlfriend to Europe. (The same trip which in turn created the BELLA ROSA name...see sidebar for that story!) Our stay in Belgium was so much fun (actually all the cities we visited were fun) and everytime I see a windmill like this I have to buy it.
I only have four so far but it all started with the second windmill from the left. There it was on the shelf at one of our local auctions. As soon as I saw it I said "that is mine!" Turned out I didn't have to pay too much for it and off it went to my house! The blades actually turn, too. I think the blades turn on all of them which is of course, fun to spin them around on occasion!
The first windmill is a decanter and the top comes off.
The teeny weeny windmill is part of a salt and pepper set but somewhere along the way the pepper disappeared. I found it in a box of junk at a fleamarket for .25!
Pretty collectibles for a vivid, lasting memory. Someday they won't mean anything to someone else, but while I have them they are very special. They tell a story everytime I see them.
