Let's Talk Vintage #48: Antiques & Art in the Park

Welcome to Let's Talk Vintage!

This week I am sharing about our local "Antiques in the Park" flea market which is held every Memorial Day and Labor Day. I was helping my Dear Hubs sell some of his summer finds and then a friend of mine joined me to go check out all of the wares. We had a great time!

There were amazing treasures EVERYWHERE.

And so were the people, hunting
for their favorites.

Once again I am reminded how blessed I am to be living so close to some awesome venues.

 

East coast pickin' in Pennsylvania, oh yes!

 

There were fun vintage things...

My friend noted that this Coca-Cola

cooler looked like something that

could be found in an airstream camper.

 

There were American Picker-ish kind of things...

 

Beautiful things...

 

And some very stunning things...

 

Including these hand Crafted things....

Yes, those are depression glass

dishes being used in this stained

glass art. Amazing!

 

That is a heart candy dish!

 

 Meet Cindy... she is the artist and creator of this beautiful stained glass art. She calls her business "The Angel Factory."

I think she could, and should, do a juried art show.

 

Then there was this booth, host of
another fellow Etsy seller, Jolisa.

Check her shop out by searching
for The Crimson Button. 
Look at these cool teaspoon
key chains. The hand stamped
wording makes them
special and unique.

Her window "signs" were
 all hand painted.

There were also colorful things...

Gas station things...

 

Groups of many things...

Clever things....

Loved the globe lamps!

In fact, this whole booth

was filled with creative pieces.

A+++++, if I were handing

out the grades! 

 

 

 

This dealer had some oldies but goodies

 

 

Loved her shelf of tins.

Looks like it came right out of a general

store stockroom.

 

And there were some unique things.

How often do you come across

a Barbershop post?

 

This was all in a town right next to mine.

Literally just minutes away,

held twice a year.

 

I did buy a few things.

Couldn't resist!

her finds and how she

her "new" antique cutlery. What
delicate designs!

Thinking Pink #8: Something French, Victorian Artwork, and Elizabeth Barret Browning

Welcome to Thinking Pink!

 

This week my pinks were at a minimum...

and I do hope that the things I do show tonight

I haven't shared before! You never know though!
 I did scan back over my old TP posts, just to be sure.

 

 

Here is my little portrait plate

of a French girl. I am

guessing she is French, only

because it is marked.....

...France on the back.

I tell ya, I'm really good at this

antique thang!

 

 

 

And then there is this antique "gift book" titled

Laurels from Browning.

 

Being the curious sort, I just read

about Elizabeth Barret Browning

and found her life and story

very interesting.

 

And of course I read some of the

 poetry... good yes, but I am

not really into English prose.

 

 

I just know how beautiful the
artwork  is inside...

 

And again, her story is interesting.

I may do an upcoming "Let's Talk Vintage!"

post about her... stay tuned!

 

And last but not least,

here is my latest thrift store find:

 

 

A pink froufy ball gown!

 

Not old, but a great "Glenda the Good Witch"

costume starter or maybe, just maybe

a costume for a party I am planning

for Bebe's birthday... she wants a

"Nutcracker" themed party!

A "Sugar Plum Fairy" perhaps?

 

Not saying I would be the one in

the gown... good grief,

there is just not enough time

to diet!

Vintage Finds of the Week #18: Goodies and Treasures and Pinterest, Oh My!

Welcome to Vintage Finds of the Week #18!

This week I am sharing some of the finds that I've been working on. I'm back in full swing listing and selling so I've put together a collage of goodies for you.

There's jewelry, a china teapot, a lemon tray, a flour canister (I may have shown this before), a 1st Holy Communion Keepsake set, a vintage Heidi book from the 1920's and a wooden glove box. I'm working on getting them all listed.

I also have some rustic treasures to share as well like this old bottle capper. My Grandmother had one of these and I just wish I could have one of her homemade root beers right now!

I'm wondering what I could do with these bottle caps if the capper doesn't sell. I am sure there are a ton of ideas on Etsy, if not, there is always the ever addictive Pinterest.
I'm on both and don't forget Instagram! Does anyone still Twitter?  

Anyway, I got off on a social media tangent. I wonder how many times we think of social media throughout the day?
I'll bet it is a lot more than we realize.

I have about 46 of these cute little HALL pottery thingies.
I believe they are individual creamers but I think they could be used for party favors at an event. Maybe even a rustic wedding. Little flowers in "vases" or toothpick holders?  Mini scrolls with pretty printing inside? They are now on Etsy so we'll see how it turns out.

Speaking of weddings, my antique blank postcard stash is running low. This was one of the best finds ever! People buy them for wedding place cards or for table numbers! I sell them in batches of 50 for 10.00. I've sold hundreds of them. So all of this to say maybe I can sell the Hall creamers for a similar reason.

And finally-

 

I may have shown these before but they

are just too darn cute to not show them again!

And they are finally listed.

Just a wee pair of stocking stretchers

for a little one. Adorable! They are on

Etsy as well as my main website.

Let's Talk Vintage #47: Family Heritage One Click at a Time

Welcome to Let's Talk Vintage! This is a weekly link party which begins every Tuesday morning at 9 am.

This week I am sharing some of my

heritage... using old photos,

snapshots that preserved family

history, one click at a time.

 

This is my Great Grandfather out in

front of this Brooklyn fire truck.

He worked for the fire company,

and had three sons.

(My paternal Great Grandmother, Mary)
 
and after my

Great Grandmother died in 1919,

he remarried another lovely lady

who became (what we all knew as)

 my Great Grandmom.

 

 

She willingly took on three young boys.

Her story inspired me to become

a step-mom to three teenagers when

I married my Dear Hubs.

 

 

Her name was Minnie.

My Great Grandfather is on the right 

and a family friend is on the left.

They were visiting the boardwalk.

 

My Great Grandfather felt that

Brooklyn was not a great

place for his three boys

and their new life, so he

moved to South Jersey.

 

It's where the rest of my heritage

takes place...

 (My paternal Grandmother and Grandfather)

 

If he hadn't moved to NJ,

my Grandparents wouldn't have met,

my Dad wouldn't have met my Mother,

and on and on it goes.

 

Amazing how choices of one affects

the rest of the heritage.

 

 

I didn't realize how much

I liked history until my Dad

and I started doing Genealogy

in the year 2000. I love digging

in to old records and finding

clues to what came before me.

 

 I have

not been doing too much

research since Bebe was

born but I will have

some time this year to start

again. What about you,

who is the family history keeper

in your clan? There is usually

someone who takes the task on.
