Lake House Transformation: Cottage Style (And Cottage Style Market Place)

If you've been following my blog in the past year or so you've probably read about our new lake house adventures.

There were many!

Last year we completely changed the look of the main living area, changing from vintage knotty pine to wainscoting and colors of blue and antique white.

Then the old seventies style kitchen was given a makeover as well.

This year we decided to tackle the attic kid's room. Bunk beds were our plan.

The hubby came up with a half bunk bed plan due to the sloped attic ceiling.

Here are some before and after pictures:

Just look at that shocking aqua color.
Maybe without the red floor it would have made a good choice....
But....oooohhhhh. Not for me.

The floor is basically a plywood painted in a high gloss brick red.

I decided to go with a nautical navy, red white and blue theme.

This way boys and girls alike

will feel comfortable in this room.

Here are the results:

Here is the half bunk.
On the next trip we are going to create a
platform or foundation for the lower bed
using a piece from another twin bed,
head board, which I explain a little
more about in the following photos.

The bed frame was ten dollars at a
yard sale. We purchased a pair but
hubby used the metal rails to make the
bunk bed....which worked out in the end
because there wasn't enough room
for the bunk beds AND two twins.

The look of the head board and foot board
was a deep brown and kind of boyish.
I decided to paint them white and they
turned out great! The horizontal
planks look like the side of a boat!

The little red night tables
were from my Dad's cabin
in Maine. We've had them
since 2005,
hoping to use
them in lake house someday...

Last year I found that Christmas Tree Shops
stocked their stores with nautical and beach
looking inventory. What great things I found
at great prices.
I've mixed a little vintage here and there.

The toy shelves were found items.
One used to be in my step son's room when he was a wee little sprout.
(In the army now!)
I painted it white. It was a beat up almond color.
The other I found at a yard sale for five dollars.
Wooden crate style and it too, received a coat of white.

The color blue I chose is called
"Cool Night."
The other color there is very similar but
with a little more navy in it....and it was
called "Mercy Me."
I kept thinking, yes, mercy MERCY ME!

Some side by side comparison shots:

Lots of work but really happy
with our results... slowly but surely
we are finishing our remodel
of the lake house.

Hopefully we only have the task of
just having fun now!

cottage style.

Jillian,
It's been a lot of fun seeing all the changes since you started the lake house. Great makeovers! I really, really love the red, white and blue going on everywhere. Enjoy yourselves this summer!
