Let's Talk Vintage! #54: Road Trippin' Through Fall

Without further ado, I will get right

to our road trip in the mountains. It was

beautiful Fall weather. We were

there just at the peak of the leaf

changing season. It was awesome!

 

 

We decided to hit a festival.

 

There were all kinds of

hand made items.

 

Would you believe I saw these awesome,

hand crafted Nutcrackers a couple of weeks

after the big birthday party of the same theme?

 

I was astounded by the craftsmanship.

Then I was astounded by the price.

We are so used to the mass produced,

imported things, made in China

that when actually faced with purchasing

something made by an artisan, we

have to walk away and "think about it."

 

At least I did!

 

 

I thought this gal's booth was filled

with awesome vintage goodness....

 

 

Bebe stopped to play with these old fashioned toys,

made new from wood, by a local artisan. I waited

for her to ask me to buy one, but she didn't.

 

 

After the festival we decided to check

out the town and ran into a museum

at the train station.

 

 

This small town of North Creek has

a bit of fame it turns out.

Then Vice President, Teddy Roosevelt,

 was hiking up the mountain

when he found out he had

just become President of the

United States.

 

The tour guide goes through

the story of how a driver

was sent to go get him

 and all that they went through,

not to mention the fact that

 Teddy had no idea

what was going on yet!

 

 

You can't have a museum in the Adirondacks,

without showing some antique skis and snow shoes.

 

 

I love it when museum curators

 "re-create" the scene and set

 up realistic looking rooms.

This is what the train station ticket

office may have looked like.

 

Minus the face-less conductor, of course.

Then there were these other neat

treasures that I just KNEW

you all would like.

 

 

 

This would be fun to create.

 

 

The Hubs and I had never seen

 these "date" nails before.

 

 

 

 

 And I loved this vintage trophy,

curious about what "Saks Fifth Ave"

and downhill skiing...have in

common. Maybe ski wear!

Pink Cottages

Last week we were in New York staying in a cute cottage along Lake Chautauqua.

The scenery was beautiful.

You know, summer with boats and swimmers and ahhhhh... well you get the picture.

But this little village we were in had the CUTEST... I mean THE CUTEST cottages.

One was prettier than the next.

Like this.

Or THIS.



This hotel had a great look. The red and white striped awnings gave it a pink look.

This cottage had pink shutters. The gentleman who owned it kept telling me they were "SALMON.'

Tomato, tomata. Potato, potata.

Either way. He looked pretty in pink sitting there.

I think this cottage sign is adorable.

I even found an antique shop nearby with a PINK door! Took the picture just for you, my pinky friends.

Today we are remembering those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks in New York City, Washington, DC, and the planes in mid-air.

This was the porch where we stayed. At the time I snapped the photo, I wasn't thinking of 9/11, but it is important for me to share it with you now, as it was one of the only cottages with an American flag hanging on its wall and its image sticks in my mind... similar to how the flags hung on buildings in NY in the days following the attacks.

I'd also like to pay tribute to the men and women who serve in our nation's military, standing up for us, fighting for our freedom, so we don't have to.

Ooh La la - Let's Take a Tour of Paris & New York

Vintage Paris... ooh la la antique postcards perfect for a scrapbook!

Let's take a stroll and see Notre Dame, Cathedral Reims, and ooooh look! It is the Arc de Triomphe along the famous Champs Elysees....

Here we have Le Place de la Concorde, Palais de Justice, Le Trocadero, Le Grande Palais and Hotel De Ville!

But look... here is another arch.... in New York City! Let's get our ice skates ready... it's Rockefeller Plaza, too. Lady Liberty standing tall, I think I like them ALL!


Turn of the century roses fit for queen, it's for a birthday, lots of pink and green!

Let's finish our trip with some holiday cheer, here's some holly to ring in the new year!
