Snow Bucks... Perfect for an Old Fashioned Christmas

Just in time for Christmas....

It's either Comet or Cupid....

No, make that Donner or Vixen....

Ut oh! Fighting over who gets to pull the sleigh!

Well, we've cleared out enough snow to get out and about...we're not used to getting 15 inches this early in the season. It wasn't even offically winter yet.

Getting ready for Christmas! Hope you're all enjoying the season.

Pink Saturday: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Happy Pink Saturday! We're about to get slammed with snow here on the East Coast so this post is about snow...and pink. Pink jammies that is!

This photo of Dear Bebe eyeing the snow for the first timewas too perfect not to use it for Pink Saturday.

We're also sharing the theme of holiday traditions. Not unlike other households we have typical traditions

Each year Dear Hubs and I put up the tree together and watch It's a Wonderful Life. He had never seen it before he had met me.

The other tradition we have is to hang the pickle ornament somewhere on the tree and let our neice and nephew look for it to receive a special present.

We also remember the reason for the season and celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas Eve. We each open one gift.

For more pinks and holiday traditions visit Beverly's blog at How Sweet the Sound.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

A Christmas Break

It's nice to get away, even for just a day or two, isn't it? Recently Dear Hubby and I got a chance to spend some time at this wonderful lodge. Very similar to the summer lodge on the movie, Dirty Dancing.

Their slogan is "Where the Past meets the Present." Well, for a couple of antique hounds like us, it is just perfect.

Their staff puts together this fabulous display. The gingerbread house is baked on the premises.
See, fun the old fashioned way. We love it!

Mmmmmm. Just look at all of that icing.

In the grand old library filled with antique bookshelves (the kind with the glass doors) is this huge Christmas tree. I love how it is flanked by statuary angels holding the pink ribbons from the tree! (Now there's a pink saturday post!)

We loved having this break in the action...right before the holidays get too hectic and crazy.
I hope it's a place we can go and enjoy old fashioned charm for years to come. It's hard to find!
And speaking of antiques...I'm taking a little break from shopping for Bella Rosa Inventory. The store is still open and I'm still shipping out...but will return soon with "new" finds... Enjoy your holiday!

Pink Saturday ~ A Few of My Favorite Things...

This week's theme is about sharing a Christmas story.

My most impressionable memory which carries lots of nostalgia for me is putting up the tree with my Sister every year. We had a small artificial tree we hauled out of the basement. The same Christmas album would be played which began with the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." To this day the song brings me right back to that moment when the needle hit the vinyl and the ornaments came out of the box. I always had to dance around for a few verses too, of course!

And well, this brings us to the shopping season as we head toward that special day.

Antiques are great alternatives to the same ol same ol stuff found in department stores? They carry lots of nostalgia too which is why I love them!

Here are a few of my favorites just listed on Bella Rosa (all with pink of course!) from a jaunt to a local auction and antique shop:

(Thank you, this has SOLD)

A VERY old ornament...

(Thank you, this has SOLD!)

A sweet little Russian tea tin.... aqua with pink roses? Made my heart go pitter patter!

The roses in these plates are done so well...they seem to pop off the plates. I would arrange these on a wall in a set of three... but I have a total of six of them available for a bigger display.

(Thank you, this has SOLD!)
And an older style clasp on the back of this bar pin.... put it on your coat, market bag or denim jacket for some added splash!

Advertising cards are great collectibles... especially when they have pink roses on them!

And an old pink shaving mug. Guess the fella who used this was "OK" with a pink one.
Or maybe it was a ladies mug? Hmmmm....

(Thank you, these have SOLD!)
Pink glass bead garland...always a classic!

PINK Saturday: Vintage Christmas Ornaments, Mercury Glass Tree Topper, Glitter Mica Putz Houses

Last week during Pink Saturday (I know, where are my priorities?) I went antiquing in search of "new" and fabulous things for Bella Rosa Antiques. Here is a sneak peek at what I brought home. If you love vintage Christmas items...you will be very happy!

I couldn't believe I found 3 more of these glitter mica putz type houses. All from the same dealer. That's where they keep coming from...but what I can't figure out is why each week there are only a few at a time put out in her booth.

Well, I'm happy I'm finding them so why look a gift horse in the mouth?

I love how this one looks like it has chapel style windows... neat!

And I absolutely LOVE these old ornaments with the glass bead "tassel" look. So delicate yet so festive.

And speaking of delicate... this glass tree topper is amazing. To make it all these years and still be in one piece. A survivor of time!

Another unique piece...this little bell ornament with the lovely connected silver glass beads.

(Thank you, this has SOLD)
She is just a charmer too. Her head is like a china or ceramic material. Unique!

(Thank you, this has SOLD)
I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted this little set of angels. Aqua with pink roses! Perfect!

What is an antique website called BELLA ROSA without a red lustre roses plate? I had to get it!

(Thank you, this has SOLD)
But one of my favorite pieces of china is this sweeeeeeeeet butter dish, insert, AND cover. A very very early piece of Homer Laughlin china. Homer Laughlin is the same company that made FIESTA ware so this gives you an idea how old this beauty is. And to find all three pieces in fabulous condition is amazing.

In the Pink (Computer)

This week I decided to show random PINK photos I have saved in my computer. The photo above was taken of me two years ago while visiting my Step-Daughter at her new school. My Dear Hubby thought the hat was me and stuck it on my head. Hmmmmm. Wonder why? Notice my reaction...

I'll leave you with this sweet bouquet of pink roses. They were for my bridesmaids when we were married five years ago.
For more pink photos (not in my computer) visit Beverly's website, How Sweet the Sound.

Next week I'll try to show my latest antiques...this week I was caught in between buying trips...I am actually antique shopping today!
As always,

Hello, Bella Rosa? I need a job.

Not too long ago I was in the car with Dear Bebe about to leave for the grocery store.

My cell phone rang. I looked at the number and didn't recognize it...and the area code was from another state. (For some reason, I tend to get a lot of wrong number calls.)

Since it is the number I use for my website, I answered it anyway.

The young man's voice on the other end said: "Hello, Bella Rosa? Are you hiring?"

I giggled and said "I'm sorry but this is a one man band."

He sounded desperate ... as though he had been calling a long list of phone numbers and this had just become routine. He sort of laughed and said "OK!" And quickly remembered to ask my name before hanging up. I guess when collecting unemployment you need to show who you called.

I felt bad for him but I also remembered a time when I was fresh out of college and couldn't find a job in my field. I had to work two jobs in retail to pay my bills until the real thing came along. Which took awhile.

If he adopts the same "can do" attitude, he'll be okay too.

In the meantime I'm going to keep my "can do" attitude, as well!

Maybe someday I'll have a big enough business I can hire a caller who says "Hello, Bella Rosa? I need a job!"

Pink, A Pink, A Bottle of Pink

It is unbelievable to me how fast the weeks fly by anymore. Tempus Fugit!

Anyway, it is PINK Saturday ... and it is time to show our pink!

These little bobble head snowmen tricked me. I bought them in an antique mall for Bella Rosa, but when I got them home I decided they were made to look old. I think I'll list them anyway as they are cuuuuuuuute! Note the pink one, of course..the reason for buying them at all.

This bowl is fantastic. Small size, not the big serving bowl you would think. But not small like a berry bowl either. Maybe a soup size. Too pretty for minestrone!
The rose on this tin has different pinks... it was done very well because it is so eye catching.
(Thank you, this has SOLD)
This ruffly dresser box is sweet. Someone has already claimed it. I'll be packing it up today. At least I got to admire it for a little while.

And I have shown this set before but here is a better picture. Is this bottle of pink vintage bath crystals amazing or what? The whole thing would look great on an antique tray in the perfect boudoir setting. (Ahhhh...I'm working on that. Sigh. Unfortunately our house was built in the 70's. This could take me some time. )

For more pinks today visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.

Coming Up... Rhinestone Buttons, Wine Stopper, Pink Shabby Rose Bowl, Rose Tin

Just a few of my recent finds that I'll be listing soon.

(Thank you, these have SOLD)

Giving credit where credit is due... my Dear Mother in Law found these buttons for the website. Is she good or what? Love these!

While this is not an antique... it is definitely unique and great for the wedding category...

(Thank you, these have SOLD)

Didn't get a chance to list these pretty postcards last time... they're going to be listed very soon!

Love how the rose design is simple but yet goes so well with the fancy design of the lid on this tin.

And some vintage Christmas hankies! Can't believe it is almost time to decorate... FUN!

Check out our website.... going to be listing very soon and announcing a special sale idea I have.

Stay tuned!

Pink Saturday - Perfectly Pink

The following items are from my recent vintage finds... most are listed already on the website but some haven't made it yet.

They all have one thing in common: they share my favorite shade of pink. The cotton candy light pink, the perfect of all pinks in my pinky opinion, of course.

This dispenser is a great "go along" for the LuRay Pastels dinnerware I collect. Caught my eye, had to have it. If it doesn't sell, I get to keep it. See how this works out?

The pretty pale pink rose ....perfect!

This antique Jack Rose perfume set is amazing. The pink bath crystals are still a .... can you guess.... a PERFECT PINK!

A ruffled, foofy, girly girl doily. Trimmed in a pink, too! And I not only found one, but two! Double pink bonus.

(Thank you, these have SOLD)
Now I know these are not real... but they make me hungry just the same. I think pink icing is a perfect idea!

For more celebrations of the perfect pinks (whatever shade it may be) pop on over to Beverly's blog at How Sweet the Sound.
