Furniture Makeovers & Lake House Updates

We spent another week up
 at the lake house
recently.

A lot more work and less
vacation but I fit in
some antiquing and
makeover time.

Remember the crazy rummage
sale I wrote about in July?
Here is the phone table I found there.
I spray painted it an ivory
while I was working
on other pieces
for the house.

Then I went to my favorite
thrift shop, "Twigs & Treasures"
and found this lovely ol gal!
Another phone table
but this time with a harp
in the seat back.

I was imagining
the possiblities
with how I would
recover the seat.
Definitely a nice piece.
But needs some TLC!

Then as luck would have it
we happened upon a nice
couple in an antique shop
that had some things
they wanted to get rid of!

We purchased some items
but they were so sweet and
heard about our lake house
and donated four of these
old chairs!

We've just been meeting some
of the nicest people.

Here are some updates to the place.
You can see the before shots

A wide shot from the stairs...

And I still need to find
something for under this sign.
We have plans to expand the
kitchen into the dining area
by adding a breakfast
bar... but for now
I need a table here.

On the hunt as usual!

Here is a scene from the
master bedroom.

The lamp shades are brand
new, found at Walmart.
They looked great
with the vintage crystal
lamps!

And well, all work and no
play makes Jillian well...
kind of cranky
so we made sure to get out
and have some fun!
 And a little birthday
celebration included
some red velvet
cupcakes!

By the lake...
the perfect way to end the day!

Coming up...
a bridal shower, new finds,
and our end to summer!

What are you doing for the last few days?

Coming Soon: Vintage Goodies Galore!

Oh yes.
Galore.
Vintage Stuff...
Just waiting to find
new homes.

While I may not have been busy blogging,
I've been busy finding vintage pieces
for my shop.

Here, there, everywhere.
Some found up by our lake house.
And some right here in our home area.
Just look at this pie bird!
I may try an online auction
for this.

But there are plenty more
in store for Bella Rosa.

Can't wait until I can share them all!

Stay tuned.

More Scenes Around the Lake

I am a budding photographer.

The reflection on the water
made my morning the day I
snapped this photo!

This shot was taken
while we were still working
on the house.
No curtains.
No outlet covers.

But things were starting to fall into
place by then.

This popcorn place
is located on
 my favorite beach.
I just had to hang
it here in the
 lake house.

Other random shots
from the lake.
I can't remember
which ones
I have used already.

 I love the ducks.
They seem to hang
 out on our little shore.

We even found
an antique shop.

 All kinds of beautiful
things inside.

I'll be back with goodies
I've found here locally
and also hopefully some things
I'll find at the lake house!

Drop me a line...
what awesome deal
did you find this week?

Birthday Blessings

My birthday.

A day to celebrate another year of life!

And to recognize all of my wonderful blessings.

Remembering not to take them for granted.

And to be Thankful.

Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows.

As I Was Strolling Along the Beach

This past week I took Bebe to the beach.

I have enjoyed our new lake house immensely, but there's a part of me that just needs to stroll
along the surf and feel the sand in my toes while the waves crash nearby.

What are the chances I would find a pink lifeguard boat?

Not wanting to get sand all over my cell phone, I had left it in the car.

Luckily I went back to get my phone to take a shot of this unique beauty

Because as it turned out, I was parked in a no parking zone!

What a lifesaver!

Not only is it a lifesaver as a lifeguard boat...
it is also painted pink in honor
of breast cancer research, too!
(I just missed getting the end
shot with the pink ribbon logo)

Summer Reflection

At the beach.
Down the shore.
Surfside.

Whatever you want to call it...
I love it!

Which is why I decided to take Bebe
to visit  Gramma "at the beach"

Where else can you find great rides
and tall ferris wheels
with awesome views of the ocean?

Not that we went up for
a ride in it.

Not yet.

When Bebe is a little bit bigger.

We tried out things like this spinning
balloon ride.

Whoaaaaa!

Mommy doesn't spin as well as she used to.

 But the bumper boats were
just the right speed.

Then we took her to a children's
"Hands On" museum.
There she is checking out an x-ray
in the "baby hospital"

There was also a "post office,"
a "grocery store," a puppet theater,
a "library" and more!

Bebe didn't want to leave!

Makes me realize
I don't want summer to leave.
It is now almost
the middle of August.

Not too many days left
until school starts.

Trying to fit in as much fun as we can!

I'll be blogging here and there
but basically I won't be in full
blog/website mode until the end
of August when our summer
fun comes to an end.

Sad to see it go but
excited to show you some of
my latest finds.

Really neat goodies in store
after the next few weeks.

Stay tuned...
And be sure to have some
summer fun along the way!

A Sneak Peek & What We've Been Up To

It was slim pickin's at my favorite
flea this past week.

I like what I found..the vintage
Chanel No 5 bottle
and lace shoes.
There just
wasn't much else
 that I liked.

Patience.

This collection of vintage pennants
was fun to pick up.

I'm torn about keeping some of them
They would make great
 lake house decor!

Especially in the kid's room.

*******
And what have we been up to?

We surprised Bebe with
a trip to a popular
amusement park
in our area.

She was very excited!

In fact, she was tickled
PINK.

LuRay Pastels Dinnerware: Celebrating 20 Years

CELEBRATING
20
Years!
1992-2012

My vintage LuRay pastels
dinnerware collection.
It all started with a trip to a
Salvation Army in my college years.

I spotted a stack of pink dishes.
Thought they were great
But didn't buy them.

When I went back to get them
They were gone.
I wanted to know
More about vintage dishes.

At that point I was hooked
and had to know
what they were &
where to find them
I went to the library.
(There was no google,
no internet...gasp!)
I found a book which
had a section on LuRay dinnerware.

It wasn't until about four years later
that I found my first piece.
In the back of a dusty
antique shop's
garage...by the beach in NJ.

Then came all of the basic pieces.
Teacups, plates, soup and cereal bowls.

I've paid  some outrageous prices...
and found some awesome deals
along the way.

Since then I've been adding unusual or
vintage "Go Alongs" as we collectors
like to call them.

This set of drinking
glasses took a very long
time to find.

Not LuRay but they go
along great!

 I found this two
tiered tidbit tray in the same antique shop,
but in their main shop along
the famous boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ.

I love it!
These are very hard to find.
The bamboo style handle is unusual.

Thanks to ebay I finished
my mixing bowl collection.
The yellow bowl was my first.
Back in the day (1998) when ebay
was new and amazing...
Remember those days?

I was so excited.
I kept exclaiming "I won! I won!"
Sigh.
I enjoy finding the pieces in
person now.
Much more exciting!

All of these pieces
are not LuRay but
I couldn't help but add them
to the collection.
As well as these
syrup or cream dispensers!
What can I say?

The thrill of the hunt.

And I've enjoyed
every minute
of the past 20 years!

I'd love to hear about
your LuRay collection
or
maybe Fiesta
or other vintage item
you love to collect.

Stop by and say hello!

New Arrivals: Celebrating the London Olympics!

This week to help kick off the
Olympics in London
we're celebrating with
a little bit of English!

Especially in this week's Mystery Sale!
Tea pots, cups, and some
good 'ol English books
are discounted to help
 get you in the mood
for the games in London.

Here are this week's new finds:

A beautiful pink and green
floral cheese server.

Love that color blue!
Larger than a normal sugar bowl
but smaller than a casserole.
Unique!

 Also unique this week:
An antique report card from 1886.
The front looks like a Christmas card.

Here is the back showing the grades
name of the school, student, and the teacher.
Plus the year.
A neat piece if you like to collect
ephemera.

The home of the Queen Mum herself!
Less than 2.00 a piece makes this
a great set to collect
as a "souvenir!"

A stack of three old school
style books.

A sweet sweet Royal Doulton collectible...
made in ENGLAND!

Quite pricey in her time this "Last Waltz"
figurine from 1965 is dancing to a
new price now!

So cute!
Love the little bug
on her head.

Gorgeous beads!
