Let's Talk Vintage #51: An Adirondack Apple Festival

Hello and Welcome to "Let's Talk Vintage!"

This is the place to share your latest finds,
show us your vintage inspired projects,
wares, photos, family history, you name it!

If you love vintage then you've
 stopped at the right place.

This week I am sharing a few snapshots
of my weekend in the Adirondack
Mountains.

While hunting for vintage on Saturday morning, my friend and I heard some ladies talking about going to the local "Apple Festival."

My ears perked up and after we made
our purchases, we headed on over.

They were making apple cider
and pie using the old apple/cider
press you see in the top left corner
of my collage.

I thought it was awesome
that it was still in use. Even more
awesome was the cider
and the yummy treats for sale!

Then we checked out the rest
 of  the vendors and there
were some really fun booths.

From vintage inspired to hand made to
hand written, it was all spectacular!
And what beautiful, crisp,
clear Fall weather we had.

Of course I will share my finds
from that morning... later on this week!
I just got back late yesterday
so I am going to keep this post short.

Let's just go ahead and check out
this week's features!

Sarah of Sadie Seasongoods shared
some "school inspired" projects
that will be sure to keep
you at the top of the class.
I loved this ruler clock! Brilliant!

had so many beautiful
vignettes in her post, I had
a hard time choosing just one!

Tangle, shared her latest and very
unique estate  sale treasure.
If you haven't seen her post already,
can you guess what it is?
Really can't wait to see what she
does with it!

and  Linda of My Sweet Cottage not only

 shared her flower frog collection,
but she also gave some really
good info on them and how to
use them for the best centerpieces.

Let's Talk Vintage #50: A Nutcracker Birthday Party

Welcome to Let's Talk Vintage!

Today I am taking you all along on a journey into
the Land of Sweets via the Russian Nutcracker ballet,
which first made its debut, in December of 1892.

It was a celebration of my sweet Bebe's 7th birthday.
Her wish this year was to have a "Nutcracker Party."
Being the forever fan of the ballet myself,
I was just as excited to plan it.

Here is a little history from Wikipedia:

The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (op. 71). The libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It was given its première at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on Sunday, December 18, 1892.

Although the original production was not a success, the 20-minute suite that Tchaikovsky extracted from the ballet was.

However, the complete Nutcracker has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960s and is now performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in the U.S. Major American ballet companies generate around 40 percent of their annual ticket revenues from performances of The Nutcracker.

***************
Hang onto your sleigh.... here we go!
(Photos by two of my gal pals,. I'm so thankful to them
for taking pictures while I was running the party.)

After looking on Pinterest for several weeks,

I created this backdrop and snowy scene...
for eye appeal as soon as you walked in.
Much of the décor I already had, and
some of the items were purchased
at thrift shops.

A sparkling tree graced the table, a purchase that I made several years ago from Katie's Rose Designs.  White lights covered by snowy garland gave a wintery effect.

I've been collecting silver plated trays for a while now and they came in handy for this table. One is holding "thank you" goodies that I gave to each girl as she left.
(Treat boxes by Martha Stewart.)

Another held spritz cookies which are

 popular at Christmas time.

I actually used a vintage cookie

press we found at a sale a couple of years ago.

I named them "Clara's Cookies"
with a pink label and white ribbon.
(Labels were from Party City.)

Other sweet treats were given
the same look with labels like:
"Little Doll Sweets" and "Fritz Sticks"

 Homemade cupcakes with white icing
were bedazzled with silver
and pink sugar sprinkles.

As the story goes, in her dream,
Clara turns into a princess.
Well, I found this beautiful pink
 ball gown with sparkling silver
beads at our local Goodwill.
They had it in the Halloween
costume section.

I was in disbelief that it was there!
So of course I bought it!
It was the perfect touch.
I labeled it "Princess Clara's Gown."

The big snowflakes in the background were found at the thrift shop up near our lake house. I've been collecting things to use for a few months now.

I had so much fun planning and setting up the party.

I even had a few surprises
for the little attendees.

The Sugar Plum Fairy stopped by for a visit
and performed the dance from the show.

She is one of the senior dancers
from Bebe's dance studio. I was very
impressed and her talent was amazing!
I was almost in tears. You're laughing
right now but it was true!

(My Dear Hubby also wore a Nutcracker/soldier
costume to greet guests as they arrived.)

We played "Pin the moustache on the Nutcracker."
My drawing wasn't too bad! I printed the "moustaches"
on my computer using Word clip art.

The girls also made their own
Nutcrackers and I just love how
cute they turned out. It was a
free printable I found online.

Before they left the girls signed
a snowflake wreath so Bebe
could remember who came
to her 7th birthday party
in the land of sweets!

Thanks so much for taking the time
to check out the great fun we had
celebrating 7 years with Bebe...
can't believe how fast the years go!

Here are this week's features:

Rita of Panopoly shared her Fall Home Tour
with us. I just loved her use of the
antique exercise pins and all of the other
creative touches that inspired her. Great motivator
for me to get out my autumn décor!

and Sam at Raggedy Bits shared this
amazing side table! Love how the
vintage paper theme totally
changed the look of it!

and Liz our latest LTV newcomer
(all the way from Scotland)
shared from her blog, Shortbread & Ginger ,
her awesome charity shop find...
and some "local history on a plate!"

shared her rosy Fall tablescape.
Her combination of pastel, bright,
and warm hues created
an amazing palette!

Remember, if you were featured,
feel free to use the LTV button
on your side bar.

A big thank you to all who
participate. This party would be
pretty boring without you!

Let's Talk Vintage! #49: Antiques in the Park Part II

Welcome to Let's Talk Vintage!
Every week vintage lovers join
together and share their latest
finds, inspirations, wares,
projects, you name it.
Every Tuesday starting at 9 AM!

Come join the party...

This week I am sharing more snapshots
of the antique show in the park
from last week. There are so
many more great things to highlight!

I seriously wanted to buy these two
department store Christmas soldiers.
I'm having a Nutcracker
birthday party for Bebe soon. How
cool would these have
been at the front door?

 Probably should have bought them
The asking price was 150.00 for both!

This dealer was really a creative sort.
You'll see the chair below that also
came from this booth.

Look at this repurposed chair...
with lots of creative flair!

Read this sign....
It tells a lot about the way things
were back in the late 1800's.
 Instead of typing: "Warning Bridge
 Weight Capacity is ....." someone
came up with this verbiage.
Apparently it was James!
Ponderous!

These two pieces are interesting.
Nautical and Industrial.
So unique!

You can't help but want to reach out and pick up some
of these vintage letter press blocks. So fun!

If you look closely and read the tag you'll
find out these aren't early bowling pins.

How awesome would these be to decorate with?

Really cool!
Be careful... later on
you may start craving a root beer!

Ooooh. This display is all about
"cozy cottage charm!"

Yes, please, may I have this!
I love the galvanized wash tub
 "turned beverage holder" idea.

My friend and I split the cost of this rope.
I've wanted to make an end table for our
lake house after seeing some on Pinterest.

We joked and said we're gonna get
together and "make stuff"
out of rope for a girl's day out.

This is Kathy....She's
very into vintage. Should be fun!

Thinking Pink #9: From A Rose Needlepoint to a Specially Crafted Tutu

Welcome to Thinking Pink!
This week I am sharing some
of my latest finds... and
a little snippet into a very
famous Christmas ballet that
is keeping us busy every weekend.
Hmmm, what could that be?

Even though we are heading into
Fall, I couldn't resist having June back.
Is this needlepoint a beauty or what?

These little bisque girls each have a
touch of pink. They are too cute.
Wondering if I should sell them
individual or as a group. I have
three more (not in pink) because
I purchased 6 all together.

Ahhh, pink roses. . . cannot resist them in pink.
I found this quote for you today:

“But he who dares not grasp the thorn
Should never crave the rose.”
Anne Bronte

Wow. Powerful!

The pink in this two compartment candy dish
is so sweet. Reminds me of little
girl's ballet shoes.
Hmmmm... another hint!

I just think these arts and crafts pieces are
completely charming.

Perfect for a tea for two..
a scone for me, and one for you!

I purchased these Coalport napkin
rings from a British lady who brought
them over with her from England.
She and her daughter were talking while
I was checking them over. Her daughter
was talking about getting some petrol.
I love the language differences...
reminds me how big the world is.

Big world or not, we would all agree these rings
would make brunch extra special!

Well, I'm sure you've guessed by now
what ballet I am talking about.
This vintage ballerina doll is
wearing a pink and silver tutu
and with a little washing could
bring it to almost good as new.

Maybe even as pretty as this hand crafted piece.
I was waiting for Bebe to finish her dance class
when this sweet gal Polly started working on this
tutu for their upcoming Nutcracker ballet.

She is very talented!

This year Bebe is going to be a
soldier and a "small flower" in
the December performance.

Hope you enjoyed my finds today...
