A Few Sprinkles About Cupcakes, Those Little Devils

Who doesn't love a cupcake? They're perfect for kid's parties, last minute desserts, and great gestures of friendship.

Last week while shopping for my Easter egg hunt I spied a package of bakery fresh cupcakes at the store. They looked sooooo yummy. But scrumptious or not, I didn't feel like paying 5.00 for a pack of six!

I decided I could go home and make up a batch. Well, one thing led to another and I was baking up 24 of these little sweeties. Oh they're sooo tempting to eat.... but maybe 24 was a little too many. I am still (ehem!) still trying to watch my waistline and after awhile they become evil! They just sit there and call my name. "Oh Jilliaaannnn " The dirty little devils.

Then just this week I discovered I've been saved...although a little too late for the waistline this week.

Did you know they now make a box mix just for cupcakes? For 1.00 I bought a package that makes TWELVE. Perfect! Duncan Hines came up with this fabulous, snack size cupcake mix. Why didn't they think of this idea before? (Maybe they made it all along and I just never noticed!)

Did you also know how these little tempters got their name? Before cupcake tins were developed, cupcakes were made in little pottery cups or ramekins. The first time the term cupcake was used was in 1828 in Eliza Leslie's Receipts cookbook. (*) I'd like to have a copy of it now, that's for sure!

* Info from wikipedia is not always considered a true fact, however, I thought this was a fun tidbit!
