Is There A Funeral in My Near Future?
Yesterday I went to the doctor. I've been having abdominal pain and I decided last Friday at the height of the disturbing ache, it was time to go.
After waiting an hour and twenty minutes to see my doctor, whom I really like, I was intrigued by what he said.
It could be my gallbladder. I was expecting to hear this and felt kind of relieved.
We need to run some tests, he said. For a couple of reasons. Gallbladder disease is common in women starting around the age of 40 and pregnancy can bring on gall stones.
The other is to see if my gallbladder is in fact, dead.
"Dead gallbladder?" I asked.
"Yes" he replied. "Dead. We don't want it to rot inside of you."
Ooooooooooookay. Now this was not good news. And NOT what I expceted.
I had never heard of this before. The gall of that gallbladder.
Let's hope when I go for testing this week and next the results are not of the post mortem kind.
After all, what kind of flowers would I send?

Weekend Review & A Movie
First, Dear Hubs worked all day at our church's car show & chicken barbecue.
It was HOT. I brought Dear Bebe. It was HOT. We left soon after we arrived!
Then after the car and chicken event ended, we went to a friend's house for dinner (same chicken barbecue) and after our tasty meal (we also indulged on the first corn on the cob of the summer) our little toddler's played in the pool. It was a great, relaxing evening with nothing to do but watch the kids have fun. There is no picture unfortunately because I forgot the camera card for my camera! My friend took pics and I am waiting to get them from her.
When we arrived home, we decided to watch our Netflix movie that had been sitting on the table for a few days. Ever since we had Dear Bebe the movies just do not get viewed as quickly or as often as we used to.
Extraordinary Measures was a really good movie! It is about a family with two children who have Pompe disease. This disease sabotages the muscles and organs and eventually kills the children by the age of nine. The father was determined to do everything he could to keep them alive. So, he finds eccentric doctor (Harrison Ford), Robert Stonehill. Ford did a pretty good job of playing the doctor but it was a little bit of a mixture of Indiana Jones meets cranky Han Solo. Ha! No, really, he was convincing. The movie conflict occurs when the two unlikely characters team up to create a drug no one had ever been able to fathom, all while watching time tick away as the sick children get nearer and nearer to death. This pretty much keeps the viewer interested in the outcome and a little bit on the edge of the seat, so to speak.
Brendan Frasier played the father. This was a good, serious role for him. I have not seen too many good Brendan Frasier movies. Keri Russell plays his wife although she does not get as much of the spotlight.
Now that I am a Mom I could really relate to the desire to DO ANYTING AT ALL POSSIBLE to find a cure for such a debilitating disease affecting children, especially your own. It also made me realize how fortunate we are for our healthy little Bebe. I try not to take for granted how blessed we are to have her and thank God for her everyday!
So without further ado, I'm giving this movie three and a half popcorns!
Then yesterday we had church in the morning and then naptime (thank goodness). After naps Dear Hubs went to fill up his antique case at a local antique mall with some goodies. (I however did NOT get to go antiquing this weekend! Oh no! Oh yes! Must find time this week!)
I made a great summertime dinner (using leftover said chicken from earlier barbecue) and then took Dear Bebe to get ice cream and see some animals at a small zoo.
Whew!
And now I'm going to try and catch up on my housework.
A weekend of fun=Messy House. The two usually go hand in hand!

Summertime...
It's good to see Dear Bebe out and about enjoying everything. We took her to a local Family Farm Days to see the cows, pigs, chicks. She loved it! (There is a photo in my last post of her looking at a little chickie.)
And of course taking the water out. So cute.

Some (Pink) Days Are Better Than Others
Cute little creamer with a great pink floral transfer.
The color plates in this copy of Alice are stunning. Again, I had visions of cutting them out and framing them for Dear Bebe's room but I couldn't take scissor to the book.
This pink rose dish has me intriqued this week. It is shaped like a bone dish but it's size tells me it is not exactly a bone dish. Much larger at 9 inches long and 5 inches wide. The back stamp reads "France" and another stamp shows where it was purchased, 5th Ave, New York!
With all of this pink goodness I am certainly tickled this week. I hope you were too!
Thanks so much for stopping by... see how many other pinkies you can visit today.
I'm off to work at our antique booth so I'll try to stop back later

Alice Went Hippity Hop In (My) Wonderland
I love looking for old books. Kind of like how the hunter seeks out his prey, I spy for antique books. I guess you could say it is my kind of Wonderland!
And when I find them I clutch them as closely as possible as though I've just found an ancient treasure map. That's what I did when I saw this old Alice in Wonderland book. I'm guessing it is from somewhere between 1910 - 1920's.
I just couldn't do it.
So now it is available in the Bella Rosa Shop , just for you!

Making a Spectacle
Today I am making a spectacle out of them.
Perfect with a stack of books, a favorite vignette of mine. Not just any book of course. How about any OLD book? Or three!
The glasses and books will be available on my site very soon. Plus a few other finds that didn't quite make the last listing. Last that is, but not least!

First Car
Remember your first car? Mine was a red Ford Escort. It was better left by the side of the road where it usually ended up!
Here Dear Bebe has her first car. A red Radio Flyer! Dear Hubs loves the vintage look which reminded him of the old time red wagons.
I'm still trying to teach her how to "push with her feet!" Hopefully she won't have to do that to her REAL first car.
And while the car is red, Dear Bebe is wearing pink. (As usual, would I have her wear anything else?)
So stop on over....there's more pink chit-chat (not reds) on Beverly's blog at How Sweet the Sound.

One Woman's Treasure: How do you know what to buy?
Determining this can be fun or it can be frustrating.
My biggest rule of thumb, which I don't always remember to abide by is, if I'm not happy with keeping it when it doesn't sell, then I shouldn't buy it.
Most of the time I just try to keep it fun. When I saw these old wooden letters they spelled fun to me!
This was another item I thought was really neat (and old) but it has not sold. An old "Laundry Account" pin cushion. I guess it was used to keep track of shirts, pants, etc.
Now this...THIS I wish I had ten more of. A Souvenir of France silk apron from the war era. Gorgeous! It sold so fast I didn't even get to enjoy it for awhile. Maybe I'll come across another in my travels.
Like this little souvenir cutie from Paris. Definitely a treasure. But I didn't have to go all the way to Paris to find it. It was right here in the county we live in. I wonder who originally owned it and what they thought of France. Many items were brought back by soldiers after the war.
Maybe the question shouldn't be.... "how do you know what to buy" but rather "how do you know what to keep?"
