Taking a little break from blogging and listing the rest of my new items this week. I thought I could get it all done but the realization hit me this past weekend that it will have to wait.

My dear Mother was diagnosed with breast cancer recently and my Sister and I are taking her for surgery. The doctors say this is a slow growing cancer so she should be okay. Singing praises it is not an aggressive form!

Just simply asking for your prayers this week as we move forward.

The Big Dining Room Reveal: The Impossible Metamorphasis!

It is finally here! My big dining room reveal.

Joining with Thistlewood Farm to share my reveal.

Doing the impossible is the theme!

What seemed like impossible became well, a real vision.

Big thanks go out to my Sweet Hubs.

He did a lot of work on trim, crown molding and three different paint colors.

We used Behr from Home Depot.

Without further ado we have the before:

Quite cluttered and not very well thought out.(This is how it looked right after Christmas)

We had moved in almost six years ago and when the furniture was delivered we weren't ready for it nor had we painted yet.

Then time flew by and the next thing you know, I'm pregnant and the dining room took a back seat.

Well, more than a back seat...it ended up in a remote location in Siberia because that is how impossible it seemed that we were ever going to tackle it.

Then out of the blue, hubby was inspired and decided RIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS, he was going to get it done.

So, not wanting to wait any longer, I said "OKAY, Yes!!!!"

And now drum roll please......

Are you ready? Are you ready?

Here it is:

We went with a brown color from Behr called "Soft Chamois" and added a chair rail.

We moved the china cabinet to the other side of the room which was questionable since the wall was so much smaller. I just had to try it out because it felt like the cabinet overwhelmed the room before.
I was so pleased when it seemed to fit "just right" here!

I'm still working on adding in some deep reds. Like for the curtains and maybe here in the table runner. More to follow in the near future!

Sissy cat wanted to share in on the big reveal today too!

The ceiling is painted a lighter taupe to offset the crown molding.

We haven't decided on a new chandelier just yet.

I'm still mulling it over.

After shopping in several stores for a new mirror, I ended up using my own mirror from the living room.

Just look at the faux wainscoting hubby created! It was a lot of cutting, painting, and arranging.
These are not full panels that you just nail on....he had to create the look piece by piece.

This is the view from the windows.

My china cabinet was full of figurines, mismatched plates, etc.

I decided to start editing out pieces to create a more "cohesive look."

China plates, goblets, and crystal were staying.

I have my eye on a corner curio for my figurines and special pieces.

I'm really happy with the new cohesive look now!

It felt really good to clean out and streamline.

(There is a cheetah figurine still sitting there, I decided he could stay since he fit the color scheme.)

From Kohl's, mahogany wood frames filled with black and white photos of a teapot...

and a teacup from my shop.

So, there you have it.

I really enjoy being in here now!

I hope you enjoyed my reveal.

It really was a big deal for us to accomplish this.

I'm usually too busy taking care of Bebe or running my website to stop and work on my house. It felt good to get it done!

Valentine Gifts Using Antiques Like... Old Skeleton Keys and Other Fabulous Ideas

The other day I was searching for a Valentine's Day card template online for Bebe's preschool class. Of course I was distracted and happened upon a BHG page about making your own Valentine gifts.

And of course I couldn't tear myself away when I discovered they were showing how to use antiquey things in the gift presentation.

I just HAD to share them with you for Pink Saturday!

We'll start off with the skeleton key gift topper. Love this idea...and well, I just happen to have some old skeleton type keys for sale in my shop, here.
As in "Here is the Key to My Heart."

Now why didn't I think of this one? Buy a pretty arrangement at the grocery store and present them inside a vintage teapot or creamer. Or even a vase!

Beautious!

I'm not sharing my age here but I do remember playing 45's on a little turntable when I was a kid.

This idea of using an old record with a love song title like Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love" is just precious!

And making up a crafty box of neat little supplies looks like a lot of fun to do!
Wooden spools are hard to come by these days....fill it with vintage buttons and ribbons too!

Budding Photographer

During the holidays we were having fun.

Decorating, baking, laughing.

I even let Dear Bebe try out my pocket camera.

Should I have been surprised when the shots turned out like this?

Or this?

OR maybe this lovely portrait of moi.

I can't believe I even put this one on the internet.

But this one she actually did pretty well with.

It is so different with the digital age.
We don't have to worry about "wasting film" like we did back in the day.

And she really enjoyed it.

Who knows? I may have a budding photographer in the making.

I love my little Sweetpea.

And I'm so thankful for everyday I get to be her Mommy.

How to keep your Antiques when you really want to Declutter

It's January.

It is cold in many parts of the country.

What else is there to do except examine your home?

Your stuff.

Your clutter.

Thinking about getting rid of that collection you've been working on for the past 15 years? Wait!
There's still hope for it yet...

Make an arrangement out of it all!
Group like things together and take advantage of your walls, shelving, or like below, a dish rack.

While this rack was advertised as being from Ethan Allen for $679 I know a few handy andy's out there who are out of work and could use the extra money. Why not hire someone who needs a job?
Or maybe your hubby dear is a bit handy?

Or in this case, nothing needed to be built at all. The article itself became the dresser.
This neat stack of vintag suitcases we've seen before but a reminder of how much storage
is available INSIDE them is always handy, especially this time of year!

I'm taking a look at my own stuff to see what I can do to declutter... it's the perfect time of year!

Antiques From A Secret Shop Around the Corner: Just Listed!

It isn't often I can get away to shop for vintage goodies.

But I found a little antique store not too far from me

with just the right stuff.

Today I'm highlighting some of these finds, which I just listed late last night, here today.

This four compartment applied rose vase is so interesting. It actually looks pieces of eggs now that I'm looking at it for the blog. A possible Easter display piece?

The jewelry in this assortment was from an auction my Dear Hubby attended.

I have to admit, he did well!

Vintage shoe stretchers... these are in a wonderful soft pink.

Chintz never seems to go out of style.

So vintage, girly, and feminine.

A pink crystal necklace.

With a brooch to match!

What is better than an antique German dessert plate with soft pink roses?

Three of them!

And a "flow blue" style cup and saucer.

How did I get so lucky to find one with a pretty pink rose on it?

The Nutcracker: Just For Christmas? And Other Finds

This past Christmas season I had a ball decorating my house. I really did.

I gathered natural greens and found new ways to "spruce" up the landscape so to speak.

Then I came across a nutcracker. It called to me!

"Oh Jillian," he said. "JILLIAN!" And I fell for it. I bought him.

And the darn thing isn't even an antique. And then I bought two more. You have to hae a trio of something, right? (I have a soft spot for these little men due to the fact I danced in The Nutcracker in my teens)

The question is. . . do I have to put them away for Christmas?

By the way, that's a snippet of the new dining room in the background!

More on that later. I've decided to wait until January 31st for my big reveal.

Karianne at Thistlewood Farms is having an Impossibility party...where you show the impossible. Makeovers around my house are usually just that so I find it appropriate to share! (She is located on my blogroll to the right.)

And speaking of share, my Dear Hubs went to a jewelry auction recently and brought home some really nice pieces for my Bella Rosa shop. And no, I am not sharing him. Tee hee.

More Valentines, these I am sharing with you!

And while the hubs was at the auction, Bebe and I found a perfect little antique shop not too far from where I live. Of course I will be listing these new, fabulous finds this week! Due to the need to keep my fantastic places to shop a secret, I cannot mention the shops name.

You gotta do what you gotta do to protect your goods! Ha!

And that leads me to another question. Do men wear cufflinks anymore?

Getting Inspired by My Antique Stuff

What do antique keys, antique bottles, old autograph books and vintage ephemera have in common?They were my inspiration for my Etsy listings this morning!

Feeling a little rustic.

Or should I say RUSTY.

The dining room furniture is back in. But I would like to wait to take pictures until I have the mirror I want and chandelier.

I may just do the "use what you have decorating" but a quick run to the stores will solve my dilemma.

Getting Pink For My Winter Blues

It is super cold here in Bella Rosa land...and my dining room redo is still "un-done" but a little pink always cheers me up.

How about some pink roses to chase away your winter blues

I take pictures of the flowers hubby gives to me so I can enjoy them at times like these!

Vintage goodies....ahhhhhh!

I've been thinking about my favorite fleamarket and counting down the days

Until it opens again! April can't come soon enough.

I would have never thought of having a pink striped couch but somehow it works perfect in this room! I just love it and think this is the pefect beach house. (I actually have no idea where this is as I found this photo in my computer!)

And I've been putting away the Christmas ornaments and think "bye bye" decorations but realize there are only 10 months until we get them all out again!

Hope you are keeping your winter blues away...and if you are living in a zone that has sun and summer right now let me just say "Send some my way, please!"

Now I Know Why...

Now I know why they say patience is a virtue! I have been learning a lot these past few weeks on how to have patience.

The dining room is almost complete. But with the holidays, traveling, family coming in for a belated Christmas celebration, it hasn't been a very quick re-do. We still have more to work on. But instead of worrying about it, I just brush it off and say to myself "It will get done."

Less stress for 2012! So, for now, lets take a look at our progress. Uh, I mean, hubby's progress. I'm just taking pictures:

I really like it! For awhile I wasn't sure.

Ever get that feeling?

The "oh no, not sure I can live with that color?" feeling?

I think with a new light fixture and bringing the furniture back in... I am going to LOVE it.

Now the problem is... I think the furniture is going to cover up all of the nice trim work hubby did!

Nice problem to have, I say.

DIY'ing It Can Be Frustrating

Who knew a quick makeover on the dining room

could be so frustrating?

It seemed simple really.

Just four walls, right?

A little bit of trim and chair rail. What could be so difficult?

Picking out a color ended up being the MOST frustrating.

I'm not even sure we have the right brown but after Home Depot mixed the wrong color paint we were happy to get something close.

But it just might be a happy accident because it looks great with this
Hampton Bay chandelier I found!

Stay tuned for more! I of course, have family arriving for a belated Christmas celebration and we are not done.

Sometimes I wonder how I find the things I do.

Is it luck or just a keen eye?

I'd like to think it is a keen eye but sometimes it is just

being in the right place at the right time.

Like when I found three old sets of antique lace

from fabulous New York City!

There are just yards and yards of it!

I haven't been able to measure yet but it is

all available in bulk.I'm not cutting it apart into

smaller pieces to sell off. Great deals here!

Yes, we've just put away all of the Christmas
decor but Valentine's day

is really just around the corner!
This is a lovely old German stand up card.

My reflection kept getting in the way of taking a great photo
of this petite mythological print.

Is it Greek? Is it Roman? Either way, I like it!

This silver and white bell has such a lovely old look...
these are the kinds of pieces

that make my heart go pitter patter!

Makeover Mania

We're still in our dining room makeover mode.

After all the discussion, the color choice was hanging in the balance.

For a while it was "makeover mania."

Color choice is tough. It seems so...well, FOREVER.

But... we have finally gone back to our original color (shown in my last post)

and my hubby is done with the celing and the upper portion of the wall.

While we finish the rest I thought I'd show you this amazing makeover

Lovely space and gorgeous furniture... this is the before.

Now below is what they did!

Amazing!

While I do not expect my "new" dining area to look as stunning as this...I'm still

looking forward to the change.

A Different Kind of New Year's Eve Party

So unconventional... but I am willing to overlook the timing to see what we can do.

Help! Choosing a Paint Color

2012 just might be the year for paint at our house.

I'm excited.

But how do you choose a paint color when your significant other has different ideas?

I'm thinking a compromise.

Something neutral like in the dining room above?

Hubs wants to do the burgundy thing.

Is this still trendy?

I saw something in the ballard designs catalog like this ...except without the orange toned chairs.

We have dark mahogany furniture with ivory padding.

How about a golden wheat with burgundy drapery?

Not a dining room but I definitely like this idea...and would like to try it in our stairway.

Opinions accepted and welcome!

Yes, Jillian There Really IS a Santa Claus!

I didn't think it was going to happen.

And then it did!
Now I believe in Santa Claus. Well, maybe not really but I do know someone was listening.

One of my gal pals! She didn't need to think long and hard about what I wanted for Christmas this year. All she had to do was read my blog! That in itself, is a gift.

If you recall I have posted about it not once, but TWICE for Pink Saturday.

The Babycakes Cupcake maker. Is. All. Mine.

From my sweet friend....here she is below

And what did we do? We instantly made mini quiches.

Not cupcakes, ohhhhh noooooo.

Quiches.

They were so easy to make and delicious.

Just a little tweaking of the recipe for next time.

Also with my gift were the accessories needed for the ultimate cupcakes.

Mini paper baking cups and beautiful pastel sprinkles.

I'm all set! Thank you, thank you!

Looking forward to the new year... I've even gone antique shopping and found a few new treasures for the new year.. here is a sneak peek of the pinky pastel treasures. There are more but these are the goodies with pink or pastels in them. Enjoy!

Just a few more days now and all of the busy busy busy will have gone away.

It will be nice to relax.

But I've really enjoyed the season this year. Having Bebe along by my side has been a lot of fun.

Her excitement and laughter.... she is at an age now where she understands what is going on.

This week everyone is busy...we have last minute gifts, cookies, cards, and greetings to neighbors on our "to do" schedule.

Overflowing Joy

This past holiday season I have been filled with joy. An amazing joy!

You could say it is all of the fun things we've been doing.

We kicked everything off by visiting a tree farm the day after Thanksgiving.
Hauled a tree home for our living room!
It was lots of fun!

We decorated it and bought presents.

We made cookies.

And gingerbread houses.

And decorated some more.

But, I think, I think it just might be ... something else.

The real JOY behind all of that.

The birth of our saviour! Unspeakable joy.

A Merry Pink Yummy Ho Ho Ho

This past week I participated in my first cookie exchange.

My dear hubby also helped and really wanted to make pressed cookies... just like he did when he was a kid. Here they are and they turned out pretty good! (See the photo above)

We added orange and lemon zest for flavor. I think next year I'm going to try almond extract.

I'm also going to check out other types of cookies I can make. It just seemed like so much FUN.

Kind of like "THE MORE THE MERRIER!" Tee hee.

I just had to check out pinterest and see what was on there...

here we have peppermint stuffed oreos.

WOW!

And these are just beautiful! Almost too pretty to eat...

And of course I was choosing only pink cookies since it is PINK SATURDAY!

I'm not sure what these delectables are but I think I gained five pounds while I was on PINTEREST.

Seriously!

And while I was shopping this week I found this yummy looking cookbook... so I came home and bought it on ebay at a discount.

Decorating with Natural Greens: Part 2 The Inside

In my last post I wrote about decorating the outside of my home using natural greens on the trees and bushes outside. We live in the woods, so I admit, I have an advantage.

But this is also partly why I wanted to start doing this.

I have the holiday decorating world literally at my fingertips.

So without further ado, here is what I came up with:

A vintage pottery serving bowl made a great pine cone display for

my coffee table.

I wasn't sure how I was going to use this nice Lenox vase but the ivory tone is the perfect backdrop for green and red!

Here I combined (Note that my ugly 70's mantel is pretty well hidden!) faux decorations

with the natural.

Using the trimmed branches from our Christmas tree I've added them here and there.

And it helped to soften up the dark metal of the fireplace.

Same branches trimmed from the bottom of our tree.

Why let them go to waste?

And Mrs. Cow here needed a little something to jazz up the kitchen!

Now for my "M" wreath... the jury is still out on the results but hey, it was my first time trying it. I think a thicker base and arranging the branches in a way that I could fluff them... see the post below for Ballard Designs "B" wreath.

It is a learning experience!

The cedar was fun to work with although I did discover I may

be allergic to it.

I'll leave you with a few shots of some older goodies we've collected over the years.

After all, we do love vintage.

Decorating with Natural Greens

I think it all started when I saw this in the Ballard Designs catalog.

A personalized letter wreath! Love it! Now to figure out how they made it.
I've also always wanted to use the natural greens found in the woods outside my home so this was a great opportunity.

But where to start?

We decided to go for simple. Hubby fashioned an "M"

out of heavy gauge wire. It does help that my dear hubby used to make wreaths on the family farm.

(Or I'm sure I would have NEVER attempted to do this on my own!)

Next I spotted a tall cedar tree...

Cut a few branches...and hand wired batches of the little branches.
Now I'm almost finished with my wreath.

I'm not sure how I like it. I think I'd like to create a thicker frame for it next time.

Pictures to follow...I just have to add a few doodads, a bow, a ribbon hanger
and it is done.

Then I spotted a holly tree (with red berries!) and a pine.

Not all holly trees have berries, did you know that? We actually have two.

One of them does not have berries. I think there has to be a male and a female tree in order to have one with berries...but I'm sure I have this info all mixed up but it is something to that affect.

ANYWAY....

Snipped a few branches from each...

And we created nicely filled urns for either side of the door.

And swags for our lamp post and windows!

It was a lot of fun and we used everything found already at our house.

My kind of decorating!

A "Pink Saturday" Moment

It occurred to me late in the day yesterday that I forgot to create a pink saturday post. FORGOT. Can you believe it?

But I did have a very PINK SATURDAY moment this week.

While signing up for a new account at my bank I was asked to show my ID and I pulled out my pink wallet...The woman asked me "Uh...do you like pink?"

Wearing my pink jacket and sneakers with the pink NIKE swoosh I answered..."Is it that obvious?" Sharing a little bit of pink today ...very late I might add, for Pink Saturday. Check out the rest, here!(These photos are from the famly farm up north...will it be a white Christmas there this year?)

Another Tuck's collectible antique postcard...coming to the end of my stash from a big estate auction purchase last spring. These are in such GREAT condition.

They were preserved very well.

This is one of the largest collections of keys I've offered...very unique and unsual keys here for sale. All waiting and ready for you to do what your creative mind inspires you to come up with!

I LOVE rhinestone jewelry. It just never really goes out of style. Why not wear vintage this year?

Decorating with Vintage Christmas Ornaments

Decorating can be so easy ... almost as easy as 1, 2, 3 when you have ornaments.

Vintage are my favorite but regular glass ornies can be found anywhere these days.Find a clear glass bowl, a piece of pottery, a tray, and voila! Instant decor.

This lovely mirror plateau makes a great base for something shiny and bright.

We still have our plateau in the Bella Rosa Shop here. I've discounted it for my blog readers this week.

And multiples of anything make a statement on their own.

These vintage Santas may be harder to come by but searching for them makes it all the more fun!

Rockin' Around My Pink Party Finds

This week I'm getting my dancin' shoes on and I'm looking for something to wear to my hubby's Christmas party. These vintage pink party horns will sure set the party mood!

Rhinestone earrings, especially vintage, are my choice each and every year!

The pair above is available here in the Bella Rosa store.

While I may not be grabbing inventory out of my shop for the party, this vintage pink beaded bag is quite the temptation.
Do you think the hubs will get me a corsage to wear reminiscent of this one?

Hmmmm.... I doubt it!

I can see this gracing a Christmas tree now or maybe for a vintage wreath add on.

I've also been known to add a vintage rhinestone pin here and there either on my cocktail dress or my coat.

One year I pinned one on a pink knit hat and I received lots of compliments!
In case you were wondering, I did not wear the pink knit hat to the company Christmas party.
Tee hee!

And last but not least...don't forget the vintage pink n blue pin ornaments
those "ivory beads" are not beads at all but teeny weeny shells pinned on there!

And hey, tree trimming parties can be lots of fun too! I used to have them when I was a single gal, living out in America's Heartland working for a local TV station. A great way to get through the holidays when your family is 12 hours away.

My New "Extra" Shop & Not Dreaming of a White Christmas

What's that up there in the title? My new "extra" shop? What could that be?????

Well on necessity I've opened up an Etsy shop here.... there is much inventory sitting around that I've decided to give items that have been waiting for a home another outlet. There are a few "new" finds sprinkled in here and there but for the most part it is for older inventory. Prices are also for the most part, lower than they are in my shop so might be fun to check out what I've listed.

Today I was looking at the site and discovered someone included one of my items in her "Treasury List" called "Not Dreaming of a White Christmas.... here.

This lovely wreath was also part of the collection...

Vintage Decor I Adore At Christmas

A rainy day here on the East Coast... so what better way to while away the hours? Decorate with vintage christmas stuff.

Today I tackled my mantle. The one from the 70's with the ugly faux barn beam. Someone, somewhere probably likes this but I know I am okay without it!

So, I cover it up with evergreen and pinecone garland...

And sparkly lights.
Then I pulled out a couple of ivory colored pottery pieces and used them for LED lighted branches... and vintage silver glass ornaments.

These old books all have to do with Christmas. I wait all year to display them!

I'm having so much fun decorating I forgot I usually list things on my site on Tuesdays...

Maybe it is okay to take a break once in awile...sharing fun Mommy time with Bebe...
(Look how serious my face is while hanging those ornaments!)

Remember this pretty pink gadget I wrote about a few weeks ago?

The one I was bursting with joy about? Chanting "I can make mini this and mini that!"

Well even before you could say the words pink babycakes cupcake maker....I had already purchased one.

I had hoped that my great online advertisement would land me a freebie, but to no avail.

Ah well, I'll just get one on my own then, I thought!

And oh yes, I did. I felt like I had snagged the last best new Christmas toy on the shelf. There were actually two left. I'm sure they had more in stock. But still.

I was even more smug knowing I had used a ten dollar off coupon to get it!

Thanksgiving night I gave it as a birthday present to my neice for her December birthday.

She LOVED it! I am officially a ROCK STAR now. Tee hee.

We even tested it out.

Pictures to follow, soon. I am hoping to find one under the tree this year, but if not, I know I can make fun memories with my neice whenver we get to see each other.

Lookin' For Trees in All the Right Places

This year on the day after Thanksgiving, otherwise known as "Black Friday," we opted for a greener type of tradition instead of shopping. (Although I suppose greenbacks could count as being green!)

You see, for many years now the thought of going out into the mad rush, I mean crowds, sends me into a nervous frenzy.

So this kind of green involved Christmas trees! Hubby took me, Bebe, and the rest of my family to a local Christmas tree farm and it couldn't have been a better day for it. It was beautiful!
We had fun searching up and down the hillside looking for the "perfect" tree that would come to live with us for the next four weeks. Since most of the trees were already tagged, we opted for the tree that would "do!" Any of them would "do" just fine really...so it wasn't too hard.

Here is Dear Hubs getting it ready for hauling...

And Bebe on his shoulders supervising the whole thing while cousin J led the way, his first time ever cutting down a REAL tree and hauling it away from the farm into the truck.

A great experience for all!

Now I can't wait to start decorating...

Setting the Table

It is Thanksgiving week.
I have a lot to be thankful for.
My sweet Dear Bebe, my helpful hubby, my family, and my home.
And they're going to be here for Thanksgiving.

I've got lots of work to do.
This was the table last year.

Each year I pull out everything I've got and somehow I manage to lay out a different tablescape than the year before. It is the part that I enjoy the most.

Thank goodness my Dear Hubs doesn't mind all of my questions. Like "What do you think? Gold with green? The white with gold? My Great Grandmother's china with the pink in it and a vintage tablecloth? Or how about this china we bought at the auction?"

He helps me stay on track but the bottom line is... it doesn't really matter. What really matters is having everyone here on Thursday, spending time together.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you this week. I'm thankful for my blog friends, faithful readers, and customers. Blogging has been such a blessing, thank you!

Dreaming of A Pink Christmas - New Listings: Nippon, Hatpin Holders, Teapots

If you are a fan of pink then the traditional Christmas colors of red, green, blue, gold are transformed into pastels like baby pink, aqua, mint green and silver.

That's why when I picked up this pink platter at the auction I just had a vision of it being filled with vintage glass ornaments.

Now this old pink hatpin holder might not work with tree ornaments but after the holidays pass this is sure to warm your heart as a bright spot on your vanity.

Aren't these salt and pepper shakers adorable? Made by Denton China of England.

A trio of cupid Valentine postcards. I am amazed by how many postcards I find that are just gorgeous, mini works of art.

An antique celery dish...now this might just make it to your holiday table serving up something yummy. Cranberry sauce perhaps? Does anyone serve celery anymore? I have heard they do!

The next two pieces are amazing. This dresser box is larger than most. From the Czech Republic by Pirken Hammer. Handpainted...inside and out!

Each week I have a favorite piece. This one is it! A beautiful Nippon handpainted teapot.

This is the other side. Beautiful!

I came, I saw, I bid! (And won!) Shelley China Sets & More

Last night I attended a local auction about 30 minutes away.

I ran into an old friend from our antique mall and she introduced me to a new dealer. We had a lot of fun chatting about all of the things available to us on the tables. I explained how I look for roses often... due to the name of my store.

There were lots of roses to bid on! Check out this amazing Shelley English bone china set. All three pieces in super condition. This is the rambler rose pattern in the dainty shape. I also happened to get the second set below in violets.

I think this set would appeal to a collector as well. After all, Shelley teacups are highly sought after by teacup enthusiasts... I did a post recently on the history behind Shelley china.

This piece I bought at an auction last year and decided to pass it on.

I can't keep everything, can I? I do try.

Lovely lustre on this plate.

I like how the roses and violets are combined into one theme.

Rhinestone necklace....a little sparkle for your holiday!

Wouldn't you like to find this in your stocking?

Or maybe you'd like to find this vintage glitter house...

around here they are called "Putz" houses.

I for one, would really like something like this.

The jeweled decoration is gorgeous!

Or maybe soft pastels make you smile.

Serve up some sweet eye candy on this three part tray.

This celluloid vanity set does not look as pretty in the photo

as it is in person. The blue is really stunning.

The swirled gold decoration is the perfect touch!

The hand mirror is in great condition. These

are usually found with cloudy glass or spots. Not this one!

And the tray is glass inside with a lace interior.

Delicate but oh so lovely!

Just look at that petit point center!

Bookends are also hard to find. This pair is marked "Made in Occupied Japan"

for the time period that Japan was occupied by allied forces.

There are many collectors who like to find the pieces made during those few years.

I have said this before but I really really like how the teal blue and pink roses are

paired in this plate. Just the right mix for a beautiful palette!

And I could not list new things without adding some antique rose postcards.

Using Antiques in Your Home

This first one caught my eye as I happen to buy a lot of vintage ephemera. I'm drawn to it like a moth to a flame.

Someone has taken the time to arrange

sepia toned postcards into wall art.

Look how together they create quite a statement!

Old school lockers. I would have never come up with this but it looks great.

This is why I need to see other people's genius to get my decorative groove going.

Then again, I'm not sure I even have a decorative groove,

but if I was going to get one I'd check in with these designers!

I thought this was interesting and I've seen it done before but the article stated this gentleman found these Ukranian newspapers at a Pennsylvania fleamarket. Yay!

An old cupboard....perfect for all of those vintage treasures we find.

Yes, it is just a bookshelf full of interesting decor and art books.

First I'd like to say how thankful I am that our power is back on! We went four days without the conveniences we were used to like being able to cook or watch tv. Candlelight is fine but it was very nice to turn the lights on!

So, that being said, we are very behind in our everyday life. I did manage to get some new things listed and since Halloween is behind us, I focused on some holiday goodies.

"Scary" Storm & Last Day for THE BIG BELLA SALE!

We had some really awful weather come our way this past weekend. Living in the woods has it's ups and downs. Let's just say there were a lot of downs.

Downed trees.

Downed wires.

Downed power.

I'm not going to let it get me down however!!!

We did get out of the house and I did a little bit of antiquing. Found a few new treasures to share in my Bella Rosa shop but when I will get them on exactly is up in the air.
For those of you who love vintage Christmas....I found a couple of neat pieces!

I'm hoping by Wednesday I can share them with you!

Hang in there with me... it has been tough. We take our electricity, computers, etc for granted until they are gone! And to top it all off this morning I went out to my car to go to my dentist appointment and my battery was dead.

Again, not down about this because any reason to put off the dentist is fine with me!

I'm finally getting around to showing this wonderfully sweet gift basket Miss Kathy of The Writer's Reverie gave to me on her visit to our area back in September.

And just enough pink to keep a pink nut like myself happy!

Last week when I went to pick up Bebe from school, I found out the teacher was planning a "Community Day" for this week. The kids were to come to school dressed as a community helper.

Well, all we had at home were three costumes. Princess, a cheerleader, or a ladybug. I try not to push the princess idea too much and I definitely didn't want to push the idea that princesses were community helpers but I suppose they could be. Afterall, Glenda the Goodwitch was pretty darn helpful in Munchkin Land!

Anyway, I came up with a nurse's costume because we already had the basic whites in everything: White shirt, white tights, shoes, and shorts. The only thing I needed was the apron and hat.

I found all of the supplies in my fabric box except for the plain white headband. I just happened to find a princess tiara in the dollar bin at Joann Fabrics this past weekend.

A few quick zips through the sewing machine and the apron was done. I glued the red cross on to save myself time... and I used card stock inside the "hat" to keep it from flopping down.

It all looked great! The bad thing? Bebe's preschool teacher thought it was so cute she wants to call on me in the future for more costumes because I am "so talented!" Oh noooooooooo.

Shelley Collectible Teacups - History

Shelley is one of the most collectible of the teacups out there. The history of Shelley goes back to the 19th century as most potteries do. Here is a bit of history from The English Store Tea Blog:

In the 1860’s, the Wileman family were the owners of a large pottery known as the Foley Works located in Staffordshire, England. James B Shelley joined the Wilemans, became the head of the earthenware works and eventually ended up running the china works. In 1881 James then took his son Percy into partnership and after James’ death, Percy took over the china works.

Percy employed the best artists and developed a world renowned bone china along with the well known Dainty shape (shown above). But in 1910, there was concern about using the name Foley, as Foley was actually a pottery region. By 1925, Percy had officially renamed his bone china Shelley. In the 1930′s Shelley also became well known for their Art Deco creations. They were even allowed to continue producing china throughout World War 2, unlike many other British potteries.

The Shelley teacup shown above may be found by looking here in my Bella Rosa Antiques store. This one is in the "Dainty" shape (more adored than the others) and it has a scenic pattern called "Heather." Shelley teacups are more desirable because they were crafted of a beautiful, fine translucent bone china.

They say if you are a teacup collector than you should have at least one Shelley in your collection. Come on, who's willing to fess up to their collection? I'd love to hear about yours.

I like the background on this antique pop up Valentine, red instead of the usual white.

Printed in Germany.

I found this pretty plate in a little local antique shop.
Handpainted gold touches throughout.

A mechanical, folding, pop up postcard. This is the first I've seen like this.

This cup is so sweet! I usually see these with "Mother" or "Father" printed on them.

The "Mama" is so endearing!

A Look Back at Vintage Glamour: Vanity Trays, Perfume Bottles, Makeup & More

In our travels, looking for great vintage pieces, we come across old vanity items.

Mirrored trays, compacts, perfume bottles, rouge and more.

I found a great article on a new magazine called Home & Antiques. They had a few pictures I really liked. This is one of them. I also borrowed the next two to show you some of the neat things you can find when hunting through old things.

I love the old graphics on these containers. How I'd like to try the "Flapper Curler!" I would of course, need to cut my hair short.

This image conjures up thoughts of the 1940's and the USO.

World Wars are not glamorous.

But these women, holding down the fort at home, were strong while still

holding onto their femininity. To quote the article from Home & Antiques:

"...wearing make-up wasn’t just a pleasure, it was part of a woman’s patriotic duty."

Falling for Pink

About this time of year the leaves start to change... and I start to cringe. I'm not a typical lover of fall. Why? Well, it means winter is coming and I'm defnitely not into cold weather. Bah-hum bug!

But this year I've decided to embrace fall... we've been enjoying pumpkin hunts, molasses cookies, butternut squash soup, the foliage. All kinds of fun things!

After all, it is so beautiful!

Computer Explosion

Computers and antiques. Such complete opposites of each other (well, unless you have an OLD one) but when you are in the business of selling the latter online then you need the former.

I've been running on a wing and a prayer since the Great Christmas Day Computer Crash of 2010...when I lost my entire address book and a lot of my hard drive files. Well, now the hard drive has really gone kerplunky. KERPLUNKY! Is that even a word? It has ceased to exist as my working team member, that's all I know. We have been pretty good about backing things up since the GCDCC '10 but I am trying to figure out whether to replace the hard drive or to buy a new computer. Currently I am using my laptop (I realize how blessed I am to have both.) The problem with relying on my laptop as a back up is....none of my usual photo editing programs, outlook express, and other handy items are on it.

So, this could work out well for my followers/customers. I might just have to have a sale this week instead of listing new items. Or maybe a combination of the two.

Do You Miss the ME Magazine?

Were you a fan of the Mary Engelbreit Home Companion magazine? I used to receive them and LOVED them. I still have all of my issues. They're full of vintage fun, creative ideas and great inspiration....and they really don't go out of style.

But the magazine stopped being published. :(

Calling All China - Latest Listings Have Arrived!

Making a call on this phone is a lot of fun...the old rotary dial still works. The whole thing is as heavy as can be but has a great vintage look. !
This is a little heavy too but gosh I've looked high and low for one in my price range and I finally found one! A vintage plateau mirror/ perfume tray.

Pretty and vintage LEFTON china plates in the rose chintz pattern. Sweetly iced cake would look even more delicious served on these. Or how about that pumpkin / apple pie served at Thanksgiving? These vintage metal flower frogs may be prickly but they make great card holders!

Royal Austria china...dates to the early 1900's.
I used to think these were just funny looking tea cups until someone told me they were cream soups. Then I started collecting them. This one is marked Theodore Haviland, Limoges, France and was in my collection but now I've started collecting other things. It is part of the antique biz, I guess, to collect ALL KINDS OF THINGS.

LENOX China: History & More

Today I'd like to write about a beautiful line of china, which has deep roots in America.

Lenox China.

This is a picture of it's founder, Walter Scott Lenox. Here was his vision for the company:

It is my will and desire that Lenox, Incorporated shall at all times manufacture the highest possible grades of porcelain, that the standard of excellence already attained shall ever be advanced..."

Since 1889 the vision of Walter Scott Lenox has guided the company he founded to set the highest standards for quality, artistry, and beauty. Today Lenox is among the world's oldest and most respected names in fine tableware and giftware — favored by presidents, displayed in museums, honored with awards, and enjoyed in homes across America. Come explore the story of Lenox as it grows from one man's conviction into the country's foremost maker of china, crystal and metal gifts.

Walter Scott Lenox was born in 1859 in the "Staffordshire of America": Trenton, N.J. Laced with transportation lines and located near sources of fuel and clay, the state capital became the country's leading ceramics center in the 19th century, with some 200 potteries. Little wonder young Walter was inspired to devote his life to creating porcelain that rivaled the best in the world.

Combining his talent for drawing and his fascination with clay, Lenox worked as a decorator and designer for several Trenton potteries beginning in 1875. Six years later he advanced to design director for Ott & Brewer, then Willets Manufacturing. Both firms produced a domestic version of Irish Belleek, the thin, cream-colored porcelain with a pearly glaze very much in vogue in Victorian times. Both firms eventually failed. The stage was set for Lenox to start his own business.

I have always loved Lenox China. It's quality and beauty make it a favorite among many.

Some of my favorite Lenox finds have been lamps. I had no idea they made lamps until we happened upon a pair of gorgeous white swan lamps several years ago. Exquisite! Then I found this pretty "ballet pink" and cream lamp in the antique mall where we have a booth.

This week we've aquired a couple more collectible pieces which I will be listing tomorrow evening if all goes as planned. Stay tuned!

Antiques A Plenty

This week I am excited about my latest finds. But then again, I'm always excited about what I've found!

And to think most of these were in the antique mall right where we have a booth.

There's something about a precious "Remember Me" sentiment on an old postcard.

I guess you could say it has NOSTALGIA written all over it!

A pretty framed tapestry. The colors are perfectly pastel.

A French framed print... a unique oval pink frame with a gal's photo.

An ironstone pitcher or creamer.... in PINK!
(My Pink Saturday post is going to be filled with it!)

A very hard to find piece of Mercury glass. This one is a nice large size.

Do I keep or sell? Hmmmm.

I've actually been looking for a piece for the living room.

We shall see!

They're up on the website... my latest finds from my excursion on Saturday.
Each week I usually find a favorite .... last week it was the German seashore puzzle. This week it is this unique "Lights of Paris" antique book. They just don't make them like this anymore!

I paired three postcards together with the lush deep red florals. Makes a difference when they compliment each other.

Milk glass, Victorian era... it is the matching partner to one we sold recently.

Looks vintage? It is actually a reproduction of an old ledger.

I still think it is fun!

So is this... kind of funky junky but great for setting out with your

fourth of July table settings!

The lustre on this rosey dish is beautiful!

Another nice old piece. The backstamp says "Bavaria"

I ended up in "LOVE" with this little Victorian gift book.

Gorgeous illustrations by famous artists.

Several of them by Frances Brundage.

Antiquing with a Blog Friend!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of having company on one of my antique treasure hunts for Bella Rosa.

Miss Kathy of "The Writer's Reverie" blog joined me on an antique excursion through three floors of a local antique mall. What fun we had!

I even found a new favorite treasure for the week.

Miss Kathy found a few goodies too.

There is a whole story behind how we "met" online but had really met in real life before! Turns out, she is married to my Father's second cousin! We're like well, family!

Her hubby and I had a great time looking through all of the family photos... there's just something about old albums that can stir memories and legacies from past generations. We all enjoyed the trip down memory lane!

Later we also enjoyed the nostalgic trip through the many dealer's booths. Ooohing and ahhing at this and that.

The Many Colors of Pink

Recently we went on a treasure hunt in a field full of antique dealers and collectors.

I've shown my finds the past few weeks but today I'm highlighting all the items with PINK!
I didn't realize how many different colors of pink I had selected. But then again, why wouldn't I? It is my favorite color!

At first glance this is not really pink, but light purple. Maybe even freesia.
But look at the florals and then see that the muted pink highlights this piece perfectly!

A wonderful example of a vintage petite point... multi colors of pinks,

including a deep pink.

A touch of salmon pink.

I like to think of these as shabby chic pinks.

But I don't suppose that is a color.
Or is it?

This moustache cup is brimming with rosey pinks.

Maybe her dress is a lovely carnation pink?

Just the most beautiful soft pink glow on this little gal's cheeks. Lovely!

Who needs red and green for Christmas? Not I. For the past few years I have removed all of my red ornaments in favor of pinks and pastels. It makes a yummy glow all over the tree.
This glass beaded garland features a hot pink that is sure to capture a happy mood.

Definitely a pink but maybe with just a touch of lavender.

One of my favorite pinks. Back in the days I was a young ballet student we referred to this as "Theatre pink" or "ballet pink." I guess really it was just a baby pink, afterall.

We reached another milestone in Bebe's life.

Pre - School!

Here she is about to go in... new backpack and a big grin.

New teacher and new friends... but she had no trouble at all and made the transition without any problems.

No crying, no fears or tears.

Mommy was fine too until I opened my "Parents Survival Kit" on the way out to my car.

Inside was this note and a few little goodies:

It has been crazy around here. One week we have an earthquake, the next a hurricane. Then a flood!

This is a photo of the front gates in Hershey Park last week.

Even the county I live in had some bad flooding. An old historic covered bridge was washed away. Built in 1885.

But now we are starting a new week... one we hope is well, very boring!

I'll be listing some more things found at our local antique fleamarket on Labor Day.

A nice pairing: Cherub porcelain pin dish with a "Forget Me Not" antique post card from 1908.

I just loved this and picked it up as soon as I saw it. The dealer told me she put the picture on herself. I think she did a great job! Reminds me of the girl from "Les Miserables"

Beautifully posed woman, nicely framed... a lovely piece to hang in a group or by herself!

Great pair of vintage Sarah Coventry earrings for fall!

This is one of the two vintage candy tins we are offering this week... the other is a Schrafts.

So unique... use them for displaying doll clothes or just display them as art!

A gorgeous old "Beauties of Tennyson" book, gold gilded pages. Twenty beautiful illustrations inside.

These are the ultimate "shabby chic" plates but look at them closer and you can see just how yummy they are! Embossed and ornately edged, just delicious!

Old porcelain ink well. These are rare and hard to find! Gorgeous ornate design.

Advertising fan with a French scene... ooh la la.

My favorite find of the day. Love this German print from Berlin in 1901. Signed W. Unger.

A needlepoint chair cover....use it for a footstool or make a pillow!

Showing some wear but this little evening purse with it's back belt loop makes me nostalgic all over. The roses are lovely....teeny little needlepoint stitches. The clasp has black crystals adorning it. Sweet!

Labor Day = Antique Fleamarket

A long weekend... a return this week to the normal schedule of life. We bid summer adieu but went out with a hurrah!

Yesterday we attended an annual antique fleamarket in the park. They have it every year... in fact TWICE a year. How does a vintage gal like myself get so lucky? The funny thing is, I just started going to it on a regular basis a few years ago.

It did not disappoint. Found all kinds of great old things!

There were things I just LOVED, but couldn't purchase because the prices were out of my range.

Like the man who had a whole table of vintage Christmas pieces. Oh how I would have liked to fill my HOLIDAY category with it all.

But it is fun to browse.

A Little Vintage History: Givenchy L'Interdit Perfume & Audrey Hepburn

Givenchy. A well known name in perfume and fashion. Thought to be the "Ultimate Chic."

I decided to take a closer look at the history behind the name and the perfume we have in the shop below, L'Interdit. I find unique pieces and then wonder about their origin. It is part of why I love what I do!

It all started with Hubert de Givenchy. Here is an excerpt from the Givenchy website:

As soon as Parfums Givenchy was founded in 1957, it became identified with what is now a legendary story: the meeting of Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn, a charming young star of American cinema. Together, they invented the "Givenchy style", in which French elegance meets American glamour, a combination of light-hearted sophistication and dazzling modernity.

Hubert de Givenchy created his first fragrance, L’Interdit, in homage to the delicate, romantic, big-hearted femininity of Audrey Hepburn.

Over time as an antique dealer I've discovered there are collectors of perfumes. Vintage bottles, unique scents, French perfumes, you name it. And the girly girl in me thinks it is a lot of fun!

Not only is this a beautiful antique book for display, Ladies of the White House is full of wonderful information about the women who were not only married to some of our earliest United States Presidents but also took on the role of being the First Lady. What did that mean in their time? From Martha Washington to Dolly Madison to Mary Todd Lincoln and more, read the life and times of these Ladies of the White House.

Farewell to Summer: Looking Back at Vintage Bathing Suits

We've come to a point in the year where we enjoy the last bit of summer and look forward to fall.

But before we do let's take a look back at some of the bathing suits our Grandparents (and parents) wore. They're fun to decorate a beach house or lakeside cottage... just hang on the wall and voila! (Photos are from Cottage Living)

This one is considered unisex and was made of wool, by Catalina. I cannot imagine wearing wool in the heat of summer, on the beach.... but it happened! It is very rare to find a suit like this that has not been eaten away by moths.

This suit shows how styles were changing... logo by Jantzen. Synthetic fabric mixed with wool.

Some of these vintage suits can cost you a pretty penny....hundreds of dollars now!
This one is a bit more affordable at 200.00!

This Catalina suit is too pretty to wear to the beach! And it is a whopping 500.00.

Around the 1940's for this style. Here is another cutie.... a "Bubble suit" moving along to the 1950's... a coral pink!

This one is adorable! I love the rickrack border. According to the writer of the article, this 1960's suit was found at an antique mall for 20.00!

The aqua bottles with simple greenery, combined with a seashell, make this a great beach vignette. Try it in the laundry room for year round fun!

We're going to try and make it down to the beach one last time before Labor Day is here.

One last walk along the water and a stroll along the boardwalk...hoping

that the memories keep us going until next year!

What a week for the East Coast... an earthquake and now a hurricane!

So hunker down, stay in, and browse through my latest vintage treasures... and if you're not bracing for a hurricane, just take a minute to check out some neat old finds:

Beautiful, embossed, pointed edge MZ Austria petite roses plate.
This one was hard to part with!

Two sets of (5) Haviland Limoges plates.
A romantic trio of things... antique Paris (Le Tour Eiffel ooh la la!) postcard, large brass skeleton key hanging from a pink ribbon, and a World War II soldier's photo. I love the push pin holes to show how often his photo was pinned up.

A sweet petite point Flapper girl style purse. Very old, showing some shabby wear but a great

example of vintage fashion. There is a belt loop on the back to show it was worn.

Vintage baby fork and an antique 1908 family photo postcard.

Gold is back this year! I see this awesome "feather swirl" pin

on a black, red, or ivory sweater for this year's holiday season.

Vintage 1968 Baby Cheerful Tearful.

Looks brand new. She has red hair too!

Brass skeleton keys tied up with ribbon.

Antique song book sheets, old brass keys, and baby pink ribbon

put a song in my heart.

Vintage wooden folding Christmas tree fencing. This one is larger than the norm...

I counted 13 ten inch pieces plus the two shorter gates.

This will definitely fit around a larger tree.

I saw these pins and thought of the show Mad Men.

Vintage retro is so much fun!

And so are these clocks. I LOVE the art deco design of the square clock.

Both by Ingraham. And they both do a lot of tick tocking!

Sitting next to each other, they were driving me crazy.

Wind 'em up each night before you go to bed, just like Grandma did!

A Gregorian copper watering can. I did not take a copper cleaner to it. Some

people like the vintage patina... so I'll let the new owner decide.

And some bits of history from old War War II letters.

In high school I was in the musical "South Pacific."

This photo made me think of the song "Nothing like a Dame!"

I think mixed media artists and scrapbook lovers will

enjoy this collection of ephemera.

Shake, Rattle, & Roll

The earth is an amazing thing. Yesterday I was completely taken off guard when the earthquake rumbled up and down the East Coast.

Guess what I was in the middle of doing? Taking pictures of my latest finds for the shop!
I can't even remember now why I was moving from my "studio" toward the staircase when I heard a VERY loud rumbling.

It was a gorgeous day yesterday (as well as today) so I had all the windows and doors open.

I thought the noise was some loud trucks rumbling by on the highway nearby.

But then I heard my LuRay teacups shaking and rattling. My first thought was EARTHQUAKE?
Then I looked for Bebe and saw her playing under the table. She was safe so I moved down the hallway toward my kitchen. I looked at my teacup stand holding my LuRay Pastels cups.... it was still rattling back and forth. I had to reach out and put my hand on it to stop the motion.

This was definitely an earthquake (or something), I thought. Then my phone rang and it was my Mother. "WE JUST HAD AN EARTHQUAKE!" Well this confirmed everything. I knew it was something big if we both felt it in two different states!

Now I know all of my bloggy pals out on the West Coast are laughing about now. We're just not used to this kind of thing.

It sure did make the afternoon interesting.

Anyway, all of this to mention that I never finished taking my photos!

Hopefully tomorrow evening I will be back on track, rolling along as usual!

What is Country French?

This weekend a magazine caught my eye. It was called Country French. Inside were pages of beautiful looking homes, decorated with none other than ANTIQUES.
I discovered it was a special publication put out by Better Homes and Gardens. Looking at their website today I discovered their definition of Country French:

Country French is defined by its elegant look, with a touch of nature and country mixed in. The French manor look can be yours by bringing in these elements: antiques, blue and yellow, florals and nature inspiration, gilded elements, rustic country-inspired details, trims, and finishes (fringe, lace), and decorative faux finishes.

Well I'll have a little bit of that and MORE, thank you very much.

Loved this look and I'm excited about searching for antiques to fill a new category on my website. You just never know when inspiration will hit. (By the way, we were in Costco when I happened to find the magazine at their discounted price!)

Summertime and vintage go hand in hand. Here's what I've just listed:

Old wooden and metal ladies shoe forms in sweet pastels, tied in a bow.
ADORABLE chalkware puppy. Was he a carnival giveaway? I'd love to know!

Ms. Fifi is out taking her sweet pooch for a walk... love the hat!
Her rose decor on top is not perfect but she was too precious to pass up.

I couldn't resist making a name for myself out of this vintage word game.

I could have done ANTIQUE or VINTAGE but why would I do that?

Donald Duck! Loved this old puppet... he is marked on the back of the neck W.D.P (Walt Disney Productions) and also has the original fabric tag... he was an early GUND toy.

A little spooky Edgar Allen Poe for you... Halloween is right around the corner.

Did I just say that? I dare not rush summer along!

This antique framed print is marked "SLUMBERLAND" on the lower left corner.

Old wooden frame is painted in a gold wash. Very old piece.

It's Worth What? New NBC Game Show Jumps on the Antiques Band Wagon

"It's Worth What?" is a game show, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, coming this September 22nd to a television near you.

Pulled from the NBC website, here is some information on what the show is about:

"It's Worth What? is a game show that taps into America's curiosity for cost and value, such as the hidden gems found in one's attic. Through set imagery and a never-ending flow of collectibles, antiques and near priceless treasures, America is brought into a world with seemingly endless doors behind which are various objects, ranging from a night at the "Jersey Shore" house to a cave bear skeleton from 150,000 BCE. "

"A pair of contestants is taken through a series of challenges that escalate in level of difficulty, tasking the contestants with discerning the price of the items in each round. If they successfully complete the challenges, contestants can win up to $1 million"

Now this is kind of weird for me to be writing about this because I used to work for an NBC affiliate...and now I have become an antique dealer. It is like my two lives have collided!

Anyway, back to the review.

The show will have bits about old things... common things...how to care for them, what to collect.

And how much someone paid for this "8 Elvis" picture by Andy Warhol, at auction.

There is even a tissue used by Scarlett Johansen after she was on a Network talk show...auctioned off for $5,300.00. And a used, thrown away dog food can from Paris Hilton's trash, sold for $300.00. Not exactly antiques... so this is where the show and I part ways.

If you're just in it for the entertainment then you'll enjoy this show. If you're a die hard antiquer and love shows like "The Pickers" then this may not be for you.Sounds an awful lot like a modern version of "Let's Make A Deal" meets "Antiques Road Show" without the funny get ups. (Oh wait, that is what Cedric is for!)

Has NBC grown desperate for ratings and jumped on the antique TV bandwagon? Shows on cable like Pawn Stars , The Pickers, and more have grabbed tons of prime time viewers over the past few years. Remember Lara Spencer, the host from Antiques Roadshow? She is one of the Executive Producers. Let's hope her guidance makes this show the real McCoy and not fake reproduction! We'll see coming up this September...

SNAPSHOTS: Decorating with Vintage Photography

I love vintage cameras, film reels, film projectors and of course, old photos.

This old KODAK camera, available in my shop, is a great piece to use for display in a movie room or office.

After looking online for some ideas of what to do with some of my vintage photos I've collected over the years, I found something really cool!

I just love how they pop through the glass, as though there is a magnifying glass over them.

Easy to do and gives another creative way to use those old jars and bottles we find at fleamarkets!

Bebe and I went to the store and picked out bakery fresh cupcakes as a special treat.

It was so much fun watching her eat one. When she laughs, I laugh.
She is my special gift and spending time with her makes it all complete!

New Arrivals: Antique French Book, Gorgeous Rhinestone Brooch, 1950's Hat, Vintage Givenchy Perfume, Royal Bonn Soap Dish

To say I am excited about this week's finds... is an understatement!

This is a really nice purse sized perfume... L'Interdit was launched by Givenchy in 1957.

Beautiful creamer!

Small, child sized cobbler's wooden shoe form

Very old French book "L'Ami Des Enfans" ... the only date I could find was 1803

Leather bound!

Vintage celluloid (possibly bakelite) vanity/dresser box.

Beautiful... so pretty in person... prong set rhinestones. Large size at 2" x 2"

A lovely hat from the 1950's... hardly ever worn if at all. Just like the kind seen on "I LOVE LUCY!" (Her 100th birthday just passed)

This is absolutely my favorite piece. A ROYAL BONN of Germany soap box with the drain insert. Very old...showing some hairlines in the lid but for its age this piece is amazing. You just don't see them around because they probably broke.

Tea Party Birthday

A friend of mine turned 40 this weekend... and her family threw her a tea party birthday. We all wore hats and dressed up!
When I walked in, all the tables were decorated just perfect with vintage teacups, scones, and a cake on EACH table.

Besides my lovely friend, the cakes were the standout stars of the day! Yummylicious!

Here is my sweet friend with her family.
I loved how her sister dressed similar to the Royal Wedding attire.

You can't see her hat too well but it was just like the kind worn in London.

Opening presents... it was so much fun and what a great bunch of women she has in her circle of friends. I enjoyed meeting them!

And the cake? Inside was RED VELVET.

Icing on the outside: Buttercream.

A fabulous day!

Summer Fun - Finding Vintage At Every Stop

We've been busy so far this summer! We started out visiting the beach and boardwalk but then we decided to try some of our local attractions which can be just as great!

There is a new fun place for families... called The Turkey Hill Experience. You get to learn the history behind a family owned business.... the Turkey Hill dairy, how ice cream is made, how milk used to be delivered, and their famous iced tea.

Bebe loved getting in the vintage dairy truck...and look there's even a vintage milk truck driver to help you out! (If you look real close... you'll see it is Dear Hubs! Shhhhhh! Don't tell him he's on the blog!)

They have all kinds of hands on exhibits...here you get to milk a cow! Our favorite part was where they handed out a free ice cream. I tried a flavor that was new to me called "Chocolate Tastycake " or something like that. Oh boy. Good thing it was a small sample.

Then recently I took Dear Bebe and my Mother over to a quaint old fashioned town, home to the Wilbur Chocolate company. We saw the ladies making chocolate specialties...made to order for birthdays and other special occasions. They have an awesome "museum" inside with vintage molds on display, candy containers, and a very large chocolate pot collection. I wouldn't mind having some of them to sell in my Bella Rosa shop! Gorgeous!

These are my favorite. It is their version of a chocolate kiss... called WILBUR BUDS. So smooth and creamy. Highly recommend them.

I also found a wonderful antique shop along the main shopping avenue called The Curiosity Shoppe. I adored it. (Was in a rush when heading out of the house today and forgot the camera!)Made a few purchases which I will of course, be listing next week.

Enjoy the summer, it is my favorite time of year!

Second Chance Tuesday - French But Made in Occupied Japan

These two figurines have a great look... with the French "Napoleon" style military garb to the lovely maiden they have a fantastic appeal. They are marked "Made in Occupied Japan."

All items made in Japan during the time it was occupied by allied forces, after World War II, were marked this way or just "occupied Japan." This is why it is unique to find some collectibles made during this small window of time.

Country Fairs: Ferris Wheels, Cotton Candy and Vintage Prize Ribbons!

August is here! Time for a country fair.

Last year we took Dear Bebe to one of our local fairs in the county. With all of the rides, food, games and the petting zoo... we are busy busy busy but don't forget about the pies, cakes, and canned items that are worthy of awards.

Plus the sewing and craft items that are shown every year in hopes of being pinned with a fancy ribbon.

So to celebrate this special time of year I'm marking my fifty 1950's purple satin country fair prize ribbons to fifty percent off. They were from Carlisle and Bloomsburg, PA fairs. They read JUNIOR CHAMPION, SENIOR CHAMPION, and GRAND CHAMPION. How fun to decorate with!

Hershey Park (Pink) Happy!

Recently we took Bebe on a trip to Hershey Park.

What fun it must have been for her to see something so exciting for the first time.

Dear Hubby just had to play a favorite game of his to win her a prize.

A pink piggy! I couldn't resist snapping this photo of her pushing it in her stroller. He's all strapped in, snug as a ..... well, as snug as a pink piggy could be!

Here we are enjoying a late night ice cream. We discovered it is much better to go in the evenings!

And I, of course, had to ride the old carousel. One of my favorites with a vintage organ. Makes the ride so much fun.

The Early 80's Clutch Purse is Back

Did a little clothes shopping this past weekend. It is that darn coupon sent quietly in the mail that drives me into the store. GETS ME EVERY TIME!

Anyway, something caught my eye in the store:

Ahhhhhhhkkkkkk! It is the clutch purse! And not just any clutch purse... the kind from the early 80's?

What do you think ladies, should we give it a second chance? I'm not sure. The jury is still out for me.
