Let's Talk Vintage #72: My Latest Vintage Finds

Welcome to Let's Talk Vintage!

This is where vintage bloggers
(whoops, vintage lovers) gather
together to "talk" about their
latest finds, projects, collections,
etc.,

If you are just visiting, wonderful!
We are happy you're here!
That's why we do this every week.

Today I'm sharing some of my latest "finds."

In the middle of winter I dig
through storage bins to see what
I stashed away last year!

This Little Red Riding Hood children's book
is very old.. and the inside is much worse
than the cover. I may just frame the cover as
the colors of the chromo-lithograph print
are still pretty vibrant.

If it's pink and vintage, I'm probably going
to buy it. This heavy ironstone style
crock matches perfectly with my
LuRay Pastels dinnerware collection.
It is marked OVEN WARE on the bottom.

I'm currently having a "Sell it"
or "keep it" dilemma. It is
for sale currently but if it
doesn't sell, I might just keep it!

This is a "what the heck is it" piece.
I'm guessing for tobacco but the two
ends have me perplexed. I will do
some research on it.

I thought an artist might like the cover of this
art book. Someone removed all of the prints
inside already but the cover may be of
interest to frame. I think the lady on the
front forgot to finish getting dressed.
Either that or she got tangled up with
a Christmas tree...

I'm not sure if I shared these
before... they'd been sitting on
my desk for weeks. I love the
pink combined with the pastel
bling. They remind me of a tropical
island. Or maybe they are
 or cherry blossoms. Still sweet!

not antiques, they are from the early
1970's and would fit well into my
Antique Retroactive Etsy shop.
Before they sell I want to actually'
put them together. All of the pieces are
there in each box, but who'd want to
miss out on all of that fun?

I'm curious to see if there would
be any interest in this old
promotional photo of Rin-Tin-Tin.
I will have to research this. I always
thought Rin-Tin-Tin was a 1950's
TV show but you can see it is printed
with signatures and a date of 1930.

You all remember this guy, don't you?
Speedy Delivery! Speedy Delivery!

I've been digging through my storage
box of ephemera. I have one more
photo to share with you today.

This photo always gives me the "WOW" factor.
The age and the style, the subject... old fair
or circus clowns or were they a Vaudeville act?
Maybe both...
I'm still pondering which site to sell it
from. Ebay? Etsy? I'm going to do more
research and see which direction to take.

Thanks so much for taking a look at my
latest "attic finds!"

Now let's see who's
featured from last week:

Joy of A Vintage Green shared
these awesome chalk paint
boards and chalk paint stencils.
Love them!

romantic Valentine's day date night
with us. A black and white movie is
definitely vintage!

and Melissa of Melissa's Antiques
share some of her treasures
from an auction she attended.
Jadeite anyone? These are just
what she considered the bonus
pieces to her day!

her latest finds and projects...
but my favorite is this wonderful
shelf she painted and distressed.
I love the galvanized pails with
numbers on them too.

But wait! I have one more "at
the last minute" feature that I
didn't mention in my LTV email:

I just loved Meg of My Vintage Life's
mercury glass photo frame and
couldn't help but notice ballet
shoes in her display! *LOVE*

Thanks so much, everyone!
Each week you do not disappoint!

Mommy & Me Craft Time: Vintage Beads into Bracelets

Over the Valentine's Day weekend we took
a trip to the Adirondacks. It. Was. Frigid.

As a back up plan to going outside
to play, a friend and I entertained
our little girls by making bracelets
using a mix of old and new beads.

A Mommy and Me project if you will.

The kind of project that never seems to get
old. Especially when sorting through all
of our containers filled with beads from
necklaces that, over time, had broken down.

Now, re-made into something new!

My Sweetpea must think like me.
We both used one large bead
as the focal point.

I love how she used
so many pastels.

Just two peas in a pod.

Or is that beads in a pod?

Either way...

Cherishing these years.
I realize they go by very fast.

I'm glad we had some fun
together, with friends,
making jewelry from old beads.

and by the way, this was
me buzzin' around on the
lake with our snowmobile.
Can now scratch that off
 of my "bucket list!"

online shop items, or just simply
join us while you have your morning coffee.
You are all invited for another
fun time while we "talk" about
vintage treasures, projects, old recipes,
traditions, collections, you name it!

Today my portion is going to
be short and sweet...
I'm sharing some of my antique
postcards that have to do
with spring and Easter!
Can you tell I'm excited
about warmer weather
coming in the not so distant
future? Anyone counting down
the days, like me?

are just as cute as can be!

They just don't make 'em like
they used to! Easter postcards
from artist's best work... this one
with purple
violets and a
beautiful basket.

This trio was one of my
favorite groupings of
Easter postcards. It sold so
I will have to enjoy looking
at the photo!

I love the postcard on the left with
the chickie pulling the wagon! Too cute.

And I would be amiss
without sharing the postcards of
the cross, the whole reason for the
Easter season. Stay tuned for
some of my most beautiful cards in
an upcoming "Let's Talk Vintage!" post
next month.

Let's Talk Vintage! #70: Vintage Souvenirs: A Sentimental Journey

Welcome to Let's Talk Vintage!

This is where we gather together, to link up in one place, every Tuesday morning, beginning at 9 AM EST.

Today I want you to just sit and think for a moment...
just close your eyes and... well, okay don't close your eyes but just drift off and think back to a time.... a time when you were a kid and wanted a souvenir from a far off place that you visited with your parents... Or, maybe you were an adult and something just touched your heart so much you had to bring it home for someone.

That's what today's LTV is all about... those special souvenirs from road trips of the past.

They are relatively inexpensive and easy to find in local
antique shops and flea markets.

I remember going to Luray Caverns with my family in the summer of 1978. If you recall from an earlier post here, my Grandparents had an antique shop in Florida and my family would make the long drive for yearly visits.

Here we all are that same week, celebrating
a double birthday for me and my Dad.
Our birthdays were only five days apart.

This particular summer we stopped along the way in Virginia to see the caverns and also to visit Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello. I think I bought a piece of quartz since I was so amazed by the stalactites and stalagmites. I have no idea where it is, I've actually been looking for it to show my Dear Bebe.

Souvenirs have touched the hearts of many adults, too. I had a Great Aunt Claire, who in her retirement, would dash off to Hawaii or Hong Kong and bring us back all kinds of things. Some "not so great" things.

I remember receiving a mumu dress that I enjoyed repeating the name of, more than I liked the gown itself.

It was sweet of her though, as in "It's the thought that counts." And that is what I love about souvenirs. Nostalgia, loving thoughts, memories... they have happy connotations. I was thrilled that she even thought of me at all.

A vintage souvenir is even better because you imagine who may have purchased it and emotion behind it... was it a gift for someone special, or just a keepsake of a memory made?

Some souvenirs even dared to remind you of who was on your list, like this Coney Island, New York hanky holder.

How about this this old Washington, DC plate? Did it represent a school trip or a present from a husband to his wife?

Or did this vintage pillow cover make one reminisce about a day in Hershey, PA... riding rides and bringing home delicious chocolate treats?

While these sentimental pieces cannot tell us all of these answers, it's okay.  We like to get creative and fill in the backstory from our imagination, anyway!

Thanks so much for going back along with me on my sentimental journey.

I'd love for you to leave a comment and tell us about your FAVORITE souvenir and the memory behind it!

Now, here are this week's features:

Debby of Debby Goes Shabby found a little
Valentine love while perusing her local
Goodwill. I love how her thrifty vision turned
into this beautiful display above.

and Sarah of Sadie Seasongoods shared this amazing Parcheesi game board clock that she made! Love it!

And speaking of souvenirs, Amy of Brocante Treasures shared her French vintage goods in her booth at the Vintique Flea in Houston. Ooh la la! She lived in France
and had the chance to bring back all kinds of goodies!

and Stephanie of the Enchanting Rose shared a wonderful
keepsake of her own and a wonderful story that goes along with it. She is a newcomer to LTV so let's give her a big welcome!

Thank you so much to all who stop by each week to link up, read up, or rest up here. I love, love, love the neat things that are shared! (A Happy Valentine's Day to all!)
